Ifeanyi Ubah's missing ship located, seized by London court

The world of billionaire mogul behind Capital Oil, Ifeanyi Ubah is getting more complicated by the day...and his assets in Nigeria and across the globe are under threat of seizure and sale!

While Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON), which sued him over N28 billion indebtedness, is asking the Federal High Court in Abuja to sell his assets, the London court has made a major breakthrough.

Last week, one of the ships under surveillance belonging to the 41 year-old business was located in the Netherlands, and seized. The ship,  Mongolia was listed in the order of the London court, which contained wide ranging demands, including the itemization of Ubah's worldwide assets.

Three ships, belonging to business associates of Ubah (who are defendants in the london case with claim No. 2012 folio 1300- ROFOS NAVIGATION LIMITED, HELI NAVIGATION LIMITED and TUTBURY MARTIME LIMITED) had earlier been seized, while the search for Mongolia intensified across the globe. And Mongolia was seen last week(but the ship"s insignia had been removed, and located by radar and identification details).

The case in london, instituted by Access Bank, which through Coscharis Motors' Cosmas Maduka had advanced capital oil a loan totalling N21 billion for PMS importation last year, was again heard on Monday December 3, 2012.

Reportedly admitting that the said Mongolia was his, Uba was quoted as saying that the product on the ship does not belong to his company. On Monday, December 3, the court was to decide what should happen to the content of the ship.

Meanwhile, in Abuja where justice Abdu Kafarati is presiding over the case (Suit NO. FHC/ABJ/CS/714/2012) between AMCON and Ubah, the next point of determination is either to allow AMCON go ahead and sell the assets of Capital Oil or grant Capital Oil access to its premises so as to continue its business unhindered. This new condition came as a surprise last week when many had thought that the parties were discussing peace and how to ensure that Capital Oil's operations was restored. The peace meeting reportedly broke down, and both parties are maintaining opposing views.
The trouble of Capital Oil's Ifeanyi Ubah began on October 9, 2012, when he was a guest of special Fraud Unit, Nigeria Police (on Milverton Road, Ikoyi, Lagos). The businessman was detained on allegations of being involved in subsidy scam totalling of N22.4 billion. A report by Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede led committee on Presidential Committee on Verification and Reconciliation of Fuel Subsidy Payments, had indicted him, alongside many oil marketers. And the committee had forwarded details of its findings to the Special Fraud Unit. Ubah spent about 11 days in detention, and was released on October 19, 2012.

His problem multiplied at Special Frauds Unit when Coscharis Motors' Cosmos Maduka submitted a petition against Ubah, alleging a N21 billion default in an oil deal. Promising to seek justice by all legal means to recover the loan (granted through Access Bank), the matter took a different turn when the case was instituted in London. And the London Court granted a freezing injunction, among which was listing Ubah's worldwide assets, and only permitted him a $10,000 allowance per week (which was later varied to $15,000). The intention of the applicants is to get all Ubah's assets across the globe, to eventually use them to offset the loan.

As the case in London raged, AMCON got an interim order from the Federal High Court in Abuja permitting it to take over Capital Oil premises and many of its assets, including his Omole Phase 2, Lagos home. Ubah is fighting back to rescue his empire and save his business.

Ubah, who came into the public attention in 2011, with lavish adverts in pages of newspapers and a fabulous gig at Eko Hotel and Suits, has two private jets ( an Embraer 650 legacy and another smaller plane) with two grand Rolls Royce marques. The Nnewi (Anambra) born businessman has scores of properties in Nigeria and across the globe.

UNN Student Develops Amateur Rocket Propellant

‘Anything Japanese can do, Nigerians can do better’

…says 20-old student who designed amateur solid rocket propellant

From ALOYSIUS ATTAH, Onitsha

Are you one of those worried that our universities do not produce researchers and innovators anymore? Maybe you have lost hope that nothing good will ever come out of our ivory towers again, and because of that, are making plans to send your children abroad for higher education.

There is hope. The indomitable spirit and ingenuity of Nigerians that were on display during Nigerian Civil War when Biafrans produced “shore batteries” rockets, “ogbunigwe” (the dread mass killer) and other war arsenals are still present with us. This was in evidence, recently, during projects defense organized by the Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of Nigeria, Nsukka. A 20-year-old of the department called Idoko Modestus Chijioke stunned the panel of assessors when he presented an amateur solid rocket propellant as his own project. His lecturers not only marveled at his ingenuity, his supervisor, Dr. J. A. Alhassan, was so proud of him that he called on the federal government to assist the young genius to achieve the best so as to conquer his world.

The amateur rocket has PVC-pipe as the motor casing, aluminum as the nose cone, ½-inch pvc-cover, aluminum and a ½-inch diameter pipe as the nozzle. The propellant is made up of 325 grams of potassium nitrate (oxidizer) and 175 grams of sorbitol (sugar), making a total of 500 grams. The PVC-pipe is of ¾-inch diameter, and 65cm in length. The rocket motor igniter is a mixture of potassium nitrate and charcoal at 80/20 ratio, to form it into a black powder (gun powder).

Amateur rocketry is also known as experimental rocketry. The project design objective according to Chijioke and to test the workability of a potassium nitrate (oxidizer) and sorbitol (fuel) blended into a KN-SB propellant for the amateur rocket made with local materials. The rocket which was launched successfully on one of the hill-tops behind the university attained an estimated height of 35m in flight.

In a chance encounter with this reporter, Chijioke shed more light on how he came up with the idea for the project.

“I came up with this project because of a childhood dream of being a rocket scientist,” he said, “and this particularly led me into the Department of Physics and Astronomy, of UNN, to get a good grasp of the physics/science of rockets and an understanding of astronomy for which rocket is basically built”.

Asked what challenges he encountered in the course of carrying out the project, the soft spoken young man said he cannot point to any because according to him, “life is all about challenges but with focus and determination, success will surely come”.

“Some people around me thought this was not possible,” he added. “But this only made me determined to prove them wrong. The other challenges were normal in amateur rocketry as several trials were made and several failures recorded. But at last the design objective was obtained. I have dreams and tall ambitions. One of them is to be in space one day. I only pray that my dreams will get support both from government and well meaning individuals so that they will be actualized”.

In a chat with Education Review, Alhassan, his project supervisor, said that, through his project, young Chijioke has demystified science.

“The solid rocket propellant constructed by Idoko Chijioke, though an adaptation of an amateur astronomer experiments, is original. He fabricated the rocket from locally available materials from our environment. Whenever we hear of rockets, our minds by reflex action go to the technologically advanced world. Chijoke has demystified science by his effort. If he is properly motivated and equipped, he can break the ice in scientific world. There is hope for \Nigeria’s national transformation if we can support and fund scientific innovations like my student has done” he said.

Mike Tyson: I found my ex in bed with Brad Pitt

Brad Pitt and Mike Tyson

Awkward moment ... but Brad Pitt escaped when Mike Tyson caught him with his ex-wife

FORMER world boxing champ Mike Tyson has claimed he once walked in on his ex-wife having sex with Brad Pitt.
The heavyweight said he caught the Hollywood hunk with Robin Givens in the 1980s — when Tyson was divorcing the actress, but still sleeping with her.
He told a US radio show: “This day, someone beat me to the punch. I guess Brad got there earlier than I did.
“I was mad as hell. You should have saw his face when he saw me.” Brad escaped unscathed.

Barrister Fred Agabje Bombshell! Only 25% Of Nigerian Women Are Wife Materials!

Money, women and power are three inseparables that form a carnal trinity all over the world.
Men of money and power usually end up attracting a flock of the most beautiful women.

In a recent interview with Yes magazine, popular Lagos Lawyer and human rights activist, Fred Agbaje spoke extensively on how he cope with Nigerian women and his perception about them.

His words below:

“If you abandon your job and begin to pursue women, they will bring you down.
The average Nigerian woman, they want successful men. Those who have made their marks in their professions, those who have a name. But you have to be careful to avoid them otherwise they will bring you down. Otherwise they will cause you distractions.

And let me tell you, it’s not all the girls out there that have anything to offer you; it’s what they can take from you. Otherwise why don’t they go for people who are still struggling?
75% of Nigerian women today, they want successful men. Meanwhile, ask them what their contribution to help that man to greater heights, nothing!

I resume work 7 o’clock, I close 10,11pm every day. So, I have no time for those frivolities.
So, is it the type of me that one lady will be running after? I’m not saying they don’t come after me, they come after me, but I know that they just want to associate with the name and what they can get. Not what they are going to contribute; they have nothing to contribute, they have nothing to offer me and that is typical of 75% of Nigerian women out there.
That is why most of them remain single at 35.Because they are looking for ready-made men, not who they can build with.

Not even coming in and helping you to develop further.

That’s why you use and dump them”

EKO2012: Anambra Stripped Of Gold Medal For Fielding Cameroonian Mercenary

Eko 2012 - The 18th National Sports festival

Team Anambra have been disgraced for fielding a mercenary and breaking the rules of the ongoing National Sports Festival. The show of shame was a confirmation of P.M.News‘ report that some states are featuring mercenaries from neighbouring West African countries at Eko 2012, as the Nigeria Weightlifting Federation, NWF, stripped Team Anambra of three gold medals won by John Baptis, a Cameroonian.

Lagos Dep. Gov. Hon. Adejoke Orelope Adefulire (l) during the presentation of Medals in weightlifting event to Jubril Abubakar of Delta State (m) and David Adeyemo of Bayelsa State at the on-going National Sport Festival in Lagos.

The shameless Baptis, who had featured for Cameroon at the London 2012 Olympics qualifier in Kenya, won gold medals at stake in the snatch, clean and jerk and the total events at the Brai Ayonote Boxing Gymnasium, National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos last weekend.

Baptis’ original nationality was uncovered owing to a jury that was set up by the NWF over the protest made by the competing states to the body.

Commenting on the national embarassment, NWF boss, Chimdi Ejiogu said that the federation has withdrawn the three medals won by the Cameroonian following the discovery of the jury.

“We discovered through findings when the snatch event was going on that he is not a Nigerian as claimed by Team Anambra, but we allowed him to finish all the events including clean and jerk before we took a decision to expel him and also strip him of the three gold medals he won.”

Ejiogu said further that Anambra State will also face the music by fielding a non-Nigerian at the games which is contrary to the rules and regulation of the National Sports Festival.

As a result, Majinedum Seldom of Team Kaduna, who was the first runner-up in the 77kg event has been awarded the gold medal, as Rabiu Ibrahim of Team Nasarawa, who was the second runner-up has been awarded the silver medal while the fourth-placed lifter has been awarded the bronze medal.

Prior to this shameful incident, former national and commonwealth champion, Modupe Oshikoya has expressed her displeasure over the allegations that some states are featuring mercenaries from neighbouring countries such as Benin Republic and Niger Republic.

“That’s not possible. I don’t want to believe this happens, what is happening to our young boys and girls who are all over the country? It’s a shame if it’s true that states hire merceneries to represent them in the festival,” Oshikoya said.

Tonto Dikeh's First Live Music Performance

The faces of Nigerian gays

Disappointed at the tragic death of his heart-throb, James was thrown into pensive mood. Two days after, he left the village unannounced to resume his work in Lagos. All appeal by his parents and kinsmen to take another girl in the village as replacement for a wife fell on deaf ear, rather, James opted to remain a bachelor. He ignores emissaries sent by his parents to rescind his decision to remain single despite the enormous wealth at his disposal.

Events happen so quickly in James’ new life. Just one day, he chances upon an old friend. After exchange of pleasantries, which revealed their new status, the friend invited James to a club party – gay club which he obliged.

That party changed James’ life as he gave in to overtures made at him by men lovers. Right from then on, James has a man lover, perhaps as an escape route to bury his ugly past.rcise to extricate Obiagali from the grip of the village gods, she died in a mysterious circumstance.

The story of Chinwe, a Nigerian lesbian based in Britain who flew into Nigeria to advocate the legalisation of homosexuality is still fresh in our minds. At the public hearing in Benin, Edo State, the self confessed Lesbian (Chinwe) wept profusely before the gathering why homosexuality should be enshrined in Nigeria’s constitution as a way of life and an infringement of their (homosexuals) fundamental human rights if their agitation is treated with levity.

Also, a male popular Nigerian musician was reportedly caught in the act with a renowned male entertainer. Though, the musician refuted the story, threatened to sue the newspaper for defamation of character, however, buried his head in shame when photographs, showing his clandestine affair were published days after the story was reported. That singular publication, however, sealed the lips of the musician and hairy entertainer lover

But for Mrs Josephine Adebayo being a lesbian was a choice she made following the neglect of her husband’s nonchalant attitude towards her.

Narrating her ordeal to Saturday Vanguard at her Victoria Island residence, Mrs Adebayo said lesbianism has offered her the romance the husband denies her.

“You may not belief it except you try it, lesbianism is more intriguing than most people thought. Though, I was hesitant to accept it when one of my good friends initially talked me into it. But today, I’ve every course to be grateful to her. Besides, my lover woman is so good at it,” she confesses.

Okechukwu, another Nigerian gay is currently operating a gay entertainment company in Abia State. Okechukwu however, disclosed that the main preoccupation of his company is to provide gay dancers and entertainment services for private parties and business functions.

But Anthonia Okorodudu (not real names) said she was introduced into lesbianism in a girls’ `, secondary school in Ughelli, Delta State.

According to her, the senior students usually had them as bunk-mates only to start fumbling with them when night falls. “At a time, the exercise was disgusting. First, I can’t imagine a fellow woman kissing and dipping her finger into my vagina as well as fumbling with my bosom,” she said.

According to Ethel, “sometimes, your lover can ditch and abandons you in the cold. Under such circumstance, we insert candle into our virgina to get the desired Intimate satisfaction. “You know, the edge of a candle stick looks more like a male’s organ. But there is a way of going about this,” Ethel reveals.

Similarly, Andrew Adewusi who attended an only Boys Secondary School in the North, said boys indulged in all manners of acts to derive Intimate maximum satisfaction.

Till date, most of those boys who were caught in the act of gay in school refused to dump the illicit act. They are already neck deep in it,” he said.

Ex-convict, Corrupt Politicians At PDP’s BoT Meeting

Former and present leaders of PDP attended the BOT meeting.
An ex-convict, and several politicians indicted and being prosecuted for corruption attended the Board of Trustees meeting of Nigeria’s ruling party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. The Board of Trustees is one of the largest organs of the ruling party.
The meeting was held on Friday night at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Top among the attendees are Bode George, a former Deputy National Chairman of the party. Mr. George was convicted for contract splitting and corruption while he was chairman of the board of the Nigeria Ports
Authority. He was sentenced to jail and served his time.

Another major attendee of the meeting was Vincent Ogbulafor, a former national chairman of the party. Mr. Ogbulafor, while he was Minister of Special Duties, forged documents to dupe Nigeria of N107 million, the
Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission, ICPC, said.
The commission is already prosecuting him at the Abuja High Court.

Former governor of Nassarawa State, Abdullahi Adamu, was also at the meeting. The former governor is believed to have mismanaged N15 billion of state funds while he was governor from 1999 to 2007. He is currently being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on a 149-count charge at the Federal High Court in the state.

Former Governor, Danjuma Goje of Gombe was also at the meeting. The EFCC believes Mr. Goje misappropriated N52 billion of the state funds while he was governor. He is being prosecuted on an 18-count charge at a Federal High Court in Gombe.

Others who attended the meeting, not being prosecuted, but whose names have been mentioned in various corruption scandals are Tony Anenih and Haliru Bello.

Mr. Anenih, a former Chairman of the BOT, has been severally mentioned in the mismanagement of over N300 billion meant for road constructions while he was Works Minister. Mr. Bello, a former chairman of the Party, is alleged to be one of the beneficiaries of the Siemens bribe. Siemens a German firm was indicted in Germany for bribing Nigerian officials in order to secure a government contract. Mr. Bello is believed to be one of the beneficiaries, although no Nigerian has been prosecuted for the crime.

Some others like the party’s national chairman, Bamanga Tukur, and one of his predecessors, Ahmadu Ali, have their wards directly linked to corruption scandals. The sons of Mr. Tukur and Mr. Ali are being prosecuted for defrauding the Federal Government in a fuel subsidy scheme.

The EFCC Chairman, Ibrahim Lamorde, had lamented the inability of the commission to convict top government functionaries, including the PDP leaders, indicted for corruption. Mr. Lamorde said the indicted officials are frustrating the corruption cases through the use of frivolous court processes.
PDP not in a hurry

At the end of the BOT meeting on Friday evening, the party said it is not in a hurry to elect a new chairman for its Board of Trustees, BOT, a position considered one of the most powerful and influential within Nigerians ruling party.

The Secretary of the BOT, Walid Jibrin, said this at the end of the meeting.
“We are not in a hurry to elect a new chairman; we want a chairman that is sound, accepted, credible and with proven integrity; a chairman who has a clear vision for the party’s mission,” Mr. Jibrin said.

A new date, January 8, was fixed as the day of the election of the BOT chairman, a position last held by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who resigned from the position earlier in the year.

The party had been expected to elect a new person, on Friday night, to fill the vacant position, with top contenders being Mr. Anenih, also a former Works Minister and previous holder of the position; and Mr. Ali, a former National Chairman of the Party.

Mr. Jibrin said contrary to reports that the election would hold on Friday night, the meeting only discussed the modalities that would be adopted for the election of the chairman and secretary of the board.
“We came to discuss the modalities that will lead to electing the new chairman. The election will be a pride to Nigerians. The issue of the new chairman of the BOT will come up on January 8 next year but before then, we must have intent from members.

“Up till the time we held the meeting, there was no intent from anybody to contest. The discussion was held on the best way to elect the chairman. However, anyone interested should submit his intent to the secretary of the party,” he said.

The board secretary stressed that contenders for the position must come from members of the BOT, adding that the aspirants have only one week to submit their intent. He said that the restriction placed on party members who are eligible to contest is in accordance with the Section 9 of the PDP Constitution, which states that the chairman and secretary of the party’s BOT should be elected from members of the BOT.
Apart from the earlier mentioned, others who attended the meeting include Senate President, David Mark; and former Vice-President, Alex Ekwueme.

Others include PDP National Secretary, Olagunsoye Oyinlola; the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Pius Anyim; a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ghali Na’Abba; and former National Chairman, Barnabas Gemade.

Others that attended the meeting include Mariam Amodu-Ali, Sunny Odogwu, Kema Chikwe, Ibrahim Mantu, Bode Olajumoke, Maina Waziri, Don Etiebet, and Ebenezer Babatope.

Boko-Haram Killed 10 Christians In Borno State!!!

(Reuters) - Suspected Islamist fighters went on the rampage in northeast Nigeria overnight, killing 10 Christians with guns and machetes and burning down their houses, witnesses said on Sunday.

The attack happened in a village called Chibok, in a remote part of northeastern Borno state, at the heart of an insurgency led by Islamist sect Boko Haram.

"Suspected Boko Haram came at night and set people's houses on fire before killing their victims," said Nuhu Clark, a former local councillor of the village who escaped the attack.

He said he counted ten bodies afterwards.

A police spokesman said they were aware of the incident but were still trying to confirm casualties.

Islamist fighters have killed hundreds of people since launching an uprising against the government in 2009, the usual targets being security forces, government officials or Christians, whom Boko Haram sees as infidels.

But the insecurity the conflict has created has also enabled criminal gangs who are nothing to do with the sect kill and rob.

In a separate incident, militants burned down three churches on Saturday in Gamboru, also in Borno state, said trader Umar Abubakar, who witnessed the attack.

Such attacks on Christians seem calculated to ignite sectarian tensions in Africa's most populous nation, which is split roughly evenly between Muslims and Christians. They mostly live side by side in peace, although bouts of violence between the communities sometimes flare up.

Boko Haram, which wants to carve out an Islamic state in northern Nigeria, has been blamed for more than 1,000 deaths since its insurgency intensified in 2010. The United States has designated three of Boko Haram's senior members as terrorists.

Its leader Abubakar Shekau praised jihadist movements across the globe on Thursday in a new video, and singled out the United States, Britain, Israel and Nigeria as enemies.

Bishop Oyedepo asked to pay N2 billion over kindergarten’s death

The General Overseer of Winners Chapel, Bishop David Oyedepo has been asked to pay N2 billion within 14 days as general damages or face legal action, for the death of three-year-old Imienfan Omokaro who got drowned at Kingdom Heritage Model School operated by Winners Chapel in Benin.

A letter written by Omokaro’s Counsel, Prince Peter E. Uwadiae-Igbinigie and, dated November 28, 2012 and made available to journalists in Benin, explained that the amount was “for the callous and senseless killing of our client’s daughter, Miss Imienfan Omokaro.”

Besides, Mr. Omokaro’s lawyers want Kingdom Heritage Model School to tender unreserved apology in three national newspapers, warning that if the demands were not met within 14 days, “we have the irrevocable instructions of our client to commence legal action against the school (Kingdom Heritage Model School) and Church (Winners Chapel) without any further correspondence from this Chambers.”

Imienfan Omokaro, a KG I pupil of Kingdom Heritage Model School, was said to have drowned in a drum of water in a toilet in the school on November 1, 2012.

Also, teachers of the school allegedly did not inform her mother when she came to pick her from school on that fateful day until late in the evening.

The school authorities and Winners Chapel had reportedly kept the girl for more than an hour, praying for her before finally taking her to Irowa Hospital in Benin, where she was confirmed dead.
The girl had died before being brought to hospital, doctors said.

“Ojukwu’s will that was read is fake” – Uche Ezechukwu

Less than 24 hours after it was read in the Enugu High Court in Nigeria’s South-East, the will of late Igbo leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, has been dismissed as strange and unreliable by one of his closest confidants.

The name of Chief Sylvester Debe Odumegwu-Ojukwu, the 56 years old lawyer reported to be Ojukwu’s first son but who has had running battles with other family members since the old man’s death on November 26, 2011, is conspicuously missing from the will. Recognised as Ojukwu’s children in the will are Chukwuemeka Jnr, Mmegha, Okigbo, Ebele, Chineme, Afam, Nwachukwu and one Tenny Haman, who was previously unheard of.

Commenting this morning on the will, Uche Ezechukwu, Ojukwu’s biographer and one-time media aide, said: “Ojukwu’s will has been read and it gave nothing to his sons and almost everything to his widow. Is that not strange?

“Could Ojukwu, who was blind for four years before his death and had all but lost his memory, have written such a will with his senses intact? Just thinking aloud!”

Ezechukwu, a seasoned journalist and public analyst whose book ‘Ojukwu, the Rebel I Served,’ has received much praise, insisted that he knows all of Ojukwu’s children and that Sylvester is one of them.

According to the man who served as Ojukwu’s Speacial Assistant on Media for some two years: “The Ikemba had the following children: Sylvester, from an Udi woman when he was an Assistant Divisional Officer there; then Emeka Jnr, Mmegha (the first daughter) and Mr. Okigbo from Njideka (Ned Onyekwelu); Ebele from Stella (née Onyeador) and then the three kids from Bianca.”

Responding to questions and observations made by some of those who responded to his Facebook post, Ezechukwu said: “Accordingly, the will gave the family compound to Emeka. The Ikemba I knew understood Igbo culture very well and knew that you can’t will out your traditional compound as it automatically goes to the first son, who holds it in trust for the family. It continues to be held in trust by every first male child. So in practical sense, Emeka got nothing! Very abnormal!

“A man’s ancestral house is not part of the will. The first son automatically inherits it. That is the house you say he willed to Emeka. What of Okigbo and Sylvester?”

Ezechukwu, who is also Coordinator of the League of Anambra Media Professionals, advised that “the nation should get ready for perhaps the longest playing soap opera that will rubbish and dwarf all those acclaim we have had for Ojukwu.”

“I knew this rumpus would erupt and when I was writing my book on him, I dodged everything about his family,” he wrote. “I was there and knew his relationship with all his children before Bianca came. I didn’t want to become the source of the storm that started breaking even before the mourning dress was shed.”

Taraba Governor Danbaba Suntai Reportedly Brain-Damaged

Taraba Governor Danbaba Suntai Reportedly Brain-Damaged

Governor Danbaba Suntai of Taraba State, who was seriously injured when his plane crashed on October 25 in Yola, capital of Adamawa State, has reportedly suffered extensive brain damage and even failed to recognize members of a presidential delegation that visited him at a hospital in Hanover, Germany, an authoritative source has told SaharaReporters.

A source close to a senior member of the delegation which was led by Senate President, David Mark, included Governor Ibrahim Yakowa of Kaduna State, President Goodluck Jonathan’s chief of staff, Mike Oghiadomhe, also on the delegation was John Kennedy Opara, the secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC) and the Chaplain of the Presidential Villa Chapel, Venerable Obioma Onwuzurumba, described the trip to see Mr. Suntai as highly secretive. SaharaReporters learnt that members of the delegation had officially traveled to Vatican City in Rome to witness the consecration of Archbishop John Onaiyekan as a Cardinal of the Catholic Church. After the ceremony in Italy, the delegation then made a quick detour to Germany to see the injured Mr. Suntai.

Our source said members of the delegation were shocked to see Mr. Suntai in a vegetative state. “His condition was so bad that they could not publicly disclose his condition after they returned to Nigeria,” said the source.

Since Mr. Suntai’s airlift to Germany, officials of the Taraba State government have engaged in propaganda, claiming that the governor was making remarkable recovery. But our sources, including an official of the state government, admitted that Mr. Suntai’s mental faculty had deteriorated since the accident and that his memory was virtually impaired.

“It is possible that he suffered brain damage because there was some delay before he could be taken abroad,” said a state official.

A Taraba-born political activist who is based in Abuja, has likened the present hide and seek game on the status of the Taraba state governor to the days of late president Umaru Musa Yar’Adua when his true state of health was concealed from Nigerians in order to prevent his vice, Goodluck Jonathan from being sworn-in as acting president.

According to him: “We all know how President Umaru Yar’Adua’s people continued to deceive Nigerians that the man was recovering well and how they even brought him back in a comatose state and declared that he was in control of Nigeria,” said the activist. He added: “I hope President Jonathan and the PDP are not planning a similar scenario whereby they will declare that Governor Suntai is in control – until they find a malleable successor who suits them.

“The fact that the people of Taraba have not heard from or seen the governor since the air crash on October 25 2012 means that the man is no longer fit to govern them,” he said.

Pregnant Woman Dies In Port-harcourt Hospital Because Of Deposit

A pregnant Nigerian lady has died because doctors in Port Harcourt insisted the husband must pay N20,000, less than $150, before she was treated. And her family members are still in shock about her death, such that they are not even thinking of burying her for now.

The 34 year old woman, Ijeoma Umumadumere, nee Ahamefule, was rushed in the morning of 25 November to Garrison Clinic in Port Harcourt, when she complained of a sudden stomach pain and headache, while cooking. Her husband rushed her to the clinic on Udom street in the oil rich city. It was between 9-10 a.m. And she was five-months pregnant.

But doctors and nurses would not attend to the pregnant woman because the husband only had N5,000 on him, instead of the N20,000 being demanded, as a precondition for treatment. Even the N5,000 the man had on him had been used to offset registration and other costs.

Her brother, based in Austria could not understand why doctors in a Nigerian hospital could have so callously and uncaringly treated the woman, pregnant with her first child. As he put it:

“Her husband begged the doctor and the nurses to attend to her since they had collected about N5, 000 he had in his pocket in the name of registration and other little things while he would go home and bring money. He had also told them that because of the nature of the emergency and the way his wife had been shouting while on the ground that his mind had only been pre-occupied with the thoughts of rushing her to any nearby hospital and had not thought of money or any other thing as he had even forgotten to put on shoes, but all his pleading and explanations to the doctor and the nurses had fallen onto deaf ears. With her pains increasing and death knocking and the doctor and the nurses refusing to understand, there was no way he could have left her there unattended, to go home and bring money. He took her and headed to another hospital, but unfortunately my sister did not make it as the damage had already been done before the doctors in that second hospital could do something reasonable to save her life.”

“What a country, what a failure and what a loss! This is a sad story of the sorry state of the Nigerian health policy, how Nigerians are heartlessly and carelessly neglected because of money by doctors and nurses to die in hospitals, and how I lost my sister to a failed system,”wrote Uzoma Ahamefule, based in Austria.

Many hospitals in Nigeria, both private and public, are in the habit of asking for pre-payment from patients, even when the case is an emergency.
