Sanusi Fundamental Rights Suit: Court Orders Sanusi’s Passport Released, Awards N50m Damages

Sanusi-Lamido-Sanusi.jpg
A Federal High Court in Lagos has restrained the Nigeria Police and the Department of State Services from arresting or harassing the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, ordered the DSS to release Lamido Sanusi’s passport and award him N50m in exemplary damages.
Sanusi’s passport was seized on February 20 when he arrived at the Lagos international airport, hours after he had been suspended by President Goodluck Jonathan over allegations of “financial recklessness”.
The CBN ex-governor, in separate suits, challenged his suspension and asked  the court to restrain the police and the SSS from arresting, detaining or otherwise harassing him in the end of February.
During the hearing of the rights’ suit on March 31, Monday, the respondents – the Attorney General of the Federation, AGF, the Police, and the SSS – made different claims.
The agency SSS accused Sanusi of financing terrorism, which the ex-governor denied.
The SSS counsel, Moses Idakwo, said Sanusi’s interaction with SSS officials lasted less than an hour and did not constitute a violation of his rights.
He also said that the provisions of Section 6 of the National Security Agencies’ Act empowered the SSS to impound the international passport of suspects pending the conclusion of investigations.
It is not clear how this fresh allegation by the SSS is related to the dubious claims by Reno Omokri, the Special Assistant to the president.
A journalist investigation had exposed how Omokri, using a non-existent alias, Wendell Simlin, created a document linking Sanusi with financing the terrorist Boko Haram group.
The document was later shown to have been created by Omokri, with several Nigerians calling for his sack. The presidency has kept mum since the scandal was exposed.
On Monday, however, Sanusi’s counsel, Kola Awodehin, accused the SSS of falsehood in its new claim against the bank chief, saying the agency had no shred of evidence.
The counsel to the AGF, Fabian Ajogwu, had objected to the suit, urging the court to strike it out for want of jurisdiction.
He argued that the provisions of Section 254 (c) 1 (d) of the 1999 Constitution ousted the court’s jurisdiction to entertain the suit.
He noted that the case before the court borders on the applicant’s employment, saying that labour-related cases are within the exclusive jurisdiction of the National Industrial Court, NIC.
The counsel urged the court to strike out the suit.
Ajogwu also argued that the applicant should not, by the suit, seek to restrain the respondents from performing their constitutional duties.
He argued that Sanusi was being investigated based on the FRCN’s claims. He said the suspended bank chief was being investigated in accordance with the provisions of the law, which the respondents had a statutory duty to perform.
Citing the dictum of retired Justice Niki Tobi of the Supreme Court in the case of Adeniran vs Alao, Ajogwu submitted that a perpetual injunction would be everlasting and could not be granted by a court of law.
While the AGF said Sanusi was being investigated based on the FRCN investigations, the police said it was not investigating the CBN ex-governor.
The counsel to the police, David Abuo, said nobody ever reported Sanusi to the police.
He, however aligned with Ajogwu, saying the case should be struck out as it seeks to bar government agencies from performing their duties.
However, responding to the respondents’ preliminary objection, counsel Awodehin submitted that the court was vested with the jurisdiction to entertain the suit.
He argued that the suit had nothing to do with the terms of employment of the applicant or industrial relations, since it was not a case of the applicant against the Central Bank of Nigeria.
He argued that the applicant never sought an order of perpetual injunction, adding that the reliefs he sought were qualified.

Woman Strips Down In Street To Prove Big Is Beautiful

A Los Angeles woman says she’s tired of Hollywood’s obsession with perfection. So, she’s doing something drastic right in the middle of Hollywood Boulevard to show other women that it’s perfectly fine to be large and have good self esteem.
While you may or may not agree with Amani Terrell’s method, no one can argue with her message of loving yourself at any size. Amani weighs 260 pounds. She knows she has to lose weight.
In the meantime, she refuses to be down on herself. She says, “You can not seek validation from other people. This world is very cruel. You must seek validation within yourself and be kind to yourself.”
Amani decided to strip down to her bikini in the very busy Hollywood Boulevard to show the world that women are beautiful at any size. While most people had a positive reaction…some, not so much. One guy yelled that he lost his appetite. Another sarcastically called her “Precious”. Amani responded like this, “That was very unkind but that’s cool because I love myself.”

Abba Moro Signed A Shocking Deal With Immigration Recruitment Consultant Drexel

A shocking agreement allowing a recruiter handpicked by Nigeria’s interior minister, Abba Moro, to exploit Nigerians seeking Immigration Service jobs, and not deploy the nearly N1 billion raised for the applicants’ screening, surprisingly missed out from a line of questioning from lawmakers probing the deaths of 19 of the job seekers last week.

For more than six hours that the Senate committee on interior, headed by Abubakar Bagudu, grilled Mr. Moro, immigration officials, the board supervising Immigration, and a representative of Drexel Technology Nigeria Limited, the firm that provided online services for the exams, lawmakers refused to asked Mr. Moro about the terms of the agreement.
The recruitment into the Immigration Service on March 15 ended in 19 fatalities including pregnant women. Outraged Nigerians have called for the removal of the minister, and prosecution of those responsible for the deaths.

At the Senate hearing, those questioned by the lawmakers, apart from Mr. Moro himself, accused the minister of hijacking the exercise, unilaterally selecting Drexel Ltd. as the recruiter, and failing to make adequate plans for a screening that involved more than 710,000 applicants.
Lawmakers heard how despite receiving N1, 000 from each applicant-totalling at least N710 million- the interior ministry and the Civil Defence Corps, Fire, Immigration and Prisons Services Board, had no funds to conduct screening for the candidates.

Sylvanus Tapgun, the secretary of the board painted a frustrating picture of how the lack of funds may have accounted for the decision to hold the tests the same day, an arrangement many have pointed at as the major factor for the stampedes that led to the deaths.
Central to the irony of how the recruiters raised so much but had no funds for the test is a puzzling agreement stating that despite collecting the huge funds from the applicants, Drexel Limited will not pay for the examinations. The ministry, which had no budgetary provision, will be responsible, the pact said.

“The ministry shall be responsible for the actual conduct of the examination, interview and selection and subsequently furnish Drexel” with the outcome,” says Section 2.17 of the agreement between Drexel Ltd and the ministry of interior. In effect, according to the provision, Drexel Limited’s responsibility ended with the online registration service.
With calls for punishment for those responsible for the killer recruitment, the government’s response may ultimately be shaped by the outcomes of separate investigations launched by the Senate and the House of Representatives.

On Tuesday, the House of Representatives said its committee on public account was also informed by the board secretary, Mr. Tapgun, that Mr. Moro acted alone on the recruitment planning, and that more than N1 billion may have been raised in the exercise.
But for hours that the minister spent taking questions from senators last Thursday, no lawmaker pressed him about the authors of the rogue agreement, its motive, or whether government lawyers took part in its drafting.
The closest the lawmakers came to asking that question was when they raised concerns about the lack of funds for the exams.

Mr. Moro answered that his ministry had hoped to use funds raised from the applicants, but that Drexel Limited only drew its attention to the contentious Section 2.17 days before the test- an acknowledgement of the shoddy planning that so characterised the process that the ministry, a party to the agreement, knew nothing of its terms, and merely approved a document likely scripted by Drexel.
“Drexel’s issues came days before the exams. So we had to rally for funds to get the exams taken,” Mr. Moro told the senate committee.

The board secretary, Mr. Tapgun, said at that point it was clear there would be consequences if Nigerians realized the screening could not hold because of funding, after paying so much.
“We said there is no way we will escape with our skin if Nigerians paid N1, 000 and we said we don’t have the money,” he told the lawmakers, justifying why the examinations had to proceed March 15 even with funding problems.

The board and the ministry then pushed for donations, including from Drexel, in an effort to raise the estimated N201 million for the test, according to the minister. Drexel said it “magnanimously” donated N45 million.
In evidence before the senate committee, the firm’s Company Secretary/Legal Adviser, Theodore Maiyaki, portrayed the company as a shrewd business operator smart enough to cash in on the ineptitude of a government agency.
Lawmakers probing Mr. Tapgun asked whether that did not indicate the government had lost control of a firm it claimed to have hired. Stuttering repeatedly and shifting his gaze, the board secretary gave no solid response. He merely said he arrived at his post to meet a standard and wished to retain that standard.

But when the minister, Mr. Moro, whom other officials accused of taking all decisions alone, took the podium, those or similar questions were not asked.
Lawmakers instead asked the minister to merely confirm whether it was true he acted alone and did not consult with the board supervising the Immigration Service. There was no query regarding how such an alarming agreement was arrived at.

Defending his decisions, Mr. Moro said the lawmakers and Nigerians should, before arriving at any judgement, be cognizant of his intention for the exercise which he said was to cleanse a system ridden with corruption, job racketeering and nepotism in the past.
He said his board and the ministry decided to meet with Drexel after the test to reconcile the financial issues arising from the agreement, and at one point said he should seize the opportunity of the hearing to correct Nigerians on the real name of the company.

It does not read Drexel Limited as many Nigerians erroneously reported, but Drexel Technology Nigeria Limited, the minister said.-Premiumtimes

Tchidi Chikere And Estranged Wife Sophia Exchange Hot Shameful Words On The Internet.

SOPHIA RESPONDED TO HIS TWEETS .....

Tchidi Chikere, I read all you said about me and I laugh. Is that the best way to justify yourself? It is well. I will not exchange words with you still because there is nothing you say or write about me that will shake me because those that put their trust in God, He never fails them.
Why are you lying to people? For them to turn around and clap for you and justify what you did? Is it because people who know the truth are saying it and it's hurting you and you are now looking for a way to justify yourself. I give 10 years of my life and this is how you repay me? By disrespecting me and my family? Continue...
You said I used juju to marry you. If truly I and my family used juju to hold you, let God who sees everything judge me and you.

You bring money for the upkeep of your kids and you are writing about it? Like seriously, are they not your kids? Whose responsibility is that? And who is disputing that with you? You said since you married me that I have not given you no love, no affection etc but you forgot the interview you granted to Punch newspaper in 2011 saying that I am the best thing that have happened to you.

You said I never had time for you? When you are always filming in the east and I won't see you in months. I played the role of father and mother to the kids...and I laughed the more when I saw where you wrote that I didn't feed you for 5 days.. Is this all in desperation to justify yourself? Wow!!

You said marriages are not contracted on the pages of newspaper and granting interviews yet you people have been granting interviews upon interviews since 2012.. Have I said anything against you? But I won't say anything against you. Keep saying lies about me thinking you can tarnish my image by putting up this childish and immature behavior.

Even if you say that I am a prostitute tomorrow or a thief, people who know the truth know the truth and God knows everything and sees the heart and he will pay everybody back according to our deeds. So am not shaking!!

I will never say anything against you to gain favour from people! No you can't hide pregnancy. I gave you my life for 12 years, gave you 3 lovely boys, gave you a home. And you always say to me then, I was a good wife to you and you know it. I was loyal to you and never cheated on you. I swallowed and stomached so many things just to make my marriage work. I turned deaf ears to so many things and covered my eyes to so many things.

I remember all the stories I heard about your escapades with other women, but did I leave you? I stayed with you because marriage is for better or worse and when you started your affair with Nuella in 2010, what did you say to me when I confronted you?

I stayed, endured and prayed every night. Have you forgotten the day I almost committed suicide? The first time you left me and the kids? I wanted to end my life but God saved me. Even as you left us in 2012, I keep saying to people that my marriage is intact and I never changed my name from Sophia Tchidi Chikere till date.

Have you not done enough to me? You are married now and still I wish you and your new wife well. Why can't you leave me alone to face my children and fill up the vacuum this has created in their lives? You say such evil things against their mother and they are hearing it from their schoolmates. Their schoolmates are taking about it and asking them questions everyday and yet your not satisfied. You claim you kept quiet because of them, yet you have been talking and tarnishing my image since 2012? Yet I kept mute. I have not and will never say anything bad against you. Vengeance is of the Lord, unless he is not on the throne.

You put up my pictures with my friend to use against me? You want to use it to justify what you did to me? What you put me through for years? You said he is my boyfriend that I go to see in London and I ask you Tchidi, when I was with you, did I not go to London 2 or 3 times yearly to buy clothes for my boutique? Everybody knows that I am a business woman and I buy my products from London and America. And so because I have a friend in London, I now go there just to see him? Lol He is my friend, my pal, my buddy and my best friend.

We started being good friends in 2013 after Chidi left me and ended our marriage. He is someone that is very close to me and my confidant. All these years I have had women as best friends and they all betrayed me, and I decided to have a guy as my best friend. We go everywhere together and he assists me in shopping and buying things for my shop etc I can't deny him. He is my friend. People that know me very well will tell you that I love taking pictures and so we took lots of pictures and the guy posted it on his Facebook page and some people copied it and started posting it online. I have also kept mute about it and I would have still keep mute if not that Tchidi raises it and wanted to use it to tarnish my name.

But is well. My kids read what their daddy wrote about me and they asked me to respond and tell the whole world that you are wonderful mother and that they know and they are seeing everything and won't say anything till they grow up! So am responding to this because of my three lovely boys that I live for, that am blessed with.

I want to beg Tchidi to please allow me to concentrate and train my kids with God's grace and help. I wish him the best in his new marriage.I bless his new marriage with his new wife and I wish them well. This will be my last statement. Even if Chidi pulls the mountain to paint me black.. I will not respond again.

Thank you

Bus conductor jumps into Ocean after stealing N40,000

A 26-year-old bus conductor, Nurudeen Suleiman, who allegedly jumped into the Atlantic Ocean after stealing N40, 000, was on Tuesday charged before a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
The accused, whose address is unknown, is facing a charge of stealing before Magistrate Salama Matepo.
The prosecutor, SP Austin Orji, said the accused committed the offence on March 30 at about 4.30 p.m. at the Bar Beach on Victoria Island, Lagos.
He alleged that the accused had approached the complainant, one Mr Segun for some financial assistance.
“The man had brought out some naira notes to give Suleiman and in the process, some fell off.
“The accused on the pretext of helping to pick the money kept N40, 000 and handed over the rest to the complainant.
“The complainant suspected a foul play and before he knew it, Suleiman had jumped into the Atlantic Ocean to avoid being caught.
“He stayed in the ocean for about 30 minutes to allow the divers that had attempted to arrest him leave,’’ Orji said.
He said the accused was later apprehended by some security men when he came out.
The offence, Orji noted, contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Suleiman, however, pleaded not guilty.
In his ruling, the magistrate granted the accused bail in the sum of N20, 000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case to April 23.

I had my first kiss at 13, raped by an aunt – Ice Prince

Ice Prince started really early. The Chocolate City rapper has revealed that he had his first kiss at 13. Speaking in an interview last week, the ‘Aboki’ rapper disclosed this when he was answering questions about his s*x life.
‘I had my first kiss when I was 13,’ the rapper said coyly, while speaking with a reporter from Pulse.
This is a throwback to a 2012 interview where the rapper also revealed that he was raped by an aunt when he was 13.
‘I had my first s*xual encounter. I would not say it was a good thing at all. It’s something I regret, whatever it was. It wasn’t a sweet experience at all. I had this aunty, though we were not related, she was just a neighbour who was living close to us, who came into my room and slept with me.’
‘It wasn’t a good experience at all. I was scared, very scared. I saw hell. It was a terrible experience. I am not excited talking about it at all. S*x is not that good. I think s*x is over-rated. I don’t know. ‘She just came into my room and just forced me to do it with her… Oh, let’s not talk about it. I was so young and innocent. But she made me lose my innocence. The woman is still alive. I don’t think I have even seen her since then,’ Ice Prince revealed in the interview.

Church Sued Klint Da Drunk For Not Coming On Their Show

klint_da_drunk_234
Christos International Church based in the nations capital Abuja is very angry with comedian Klint Da Drunk for not coming on their show to anchor their empowerment programme even though he was paid upfront  N250,000.
The church said that Klint was paid in time and failed to show up to their event.
Klint however said that he was given a wrong date by the church therefore he is not at fault, he revealed that the church told him 23rd of March, 2014, instead of the 22nd of March, 2014.
The church denied such mistake saying that the other people invited, Frank Edwards and Asu Ekiye all showed up in time for the event.
As this news spreads, Klint’s pals are saying that if Klint could buckle down and face his work he would be one of the best and richest comedians available in the country but instead he spends his time playing video games.
They alleged that he would rather play games than honor important career meetings and events.
The church has however warned Klint that they will call the police if he fails to refund the payment.

Nigeria Leads In Skin Bleaching

The effect of skin bleaching
Dr. Nike Omotoyosi, a dermatologist at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, says Nigeria has the highest number of people who indulge in skin bleaching.
She spoke on Tuesday at the ongoing Lenten season programme organised by the wife of Kwara State Governor, Mrs. Omolewa Ahmed, at the Government House.
In her lecture entitled, “The Harmful Effects of Skin Bleaching, ”the dermatologist stated that the rate of skin cancer and other kidney diseases was on the rise due to bleaching.
“Nigeria is the foremost country where people bleach their skin in the whole world due to the negative effects of advertisements on billboards where white skinned women are portrayed as beautiful.
“There is the misconception that only fair people are beautiful. As such, those with dark skin would want to attract the opposite sex by removing the dark spot using different chemicals to bleach,” she said.
Omotoyosi, who noted that some were lured into bleaching due to societal pressure, added that the trend was now popular with men also.
Bleaching, according to her, reduces melanin, a pigment of the skin.
Omotoyosi said melanin protects the skin from the harsh rays of the sun while acting as a protective agent against cancer and other dangerous skin diseases.
She said active bleaching agents and chemicals found in most Nigerian markets were hydroquinone, mercury and steroids.
“Many countries, including Nigeria, have banned the use of these active ingredients in cosmetics but bleaching still persists in this country,” Omotoyosi said.
She said other side effects of bleaching include burns, dark nails, permanent luekodermia, easy bruising, stretch marks, recurrent skin infections, dermatitis, pimples breakout and onchronosis.
“Mercury poisoning on its own causes severe nerve problems, movement disorders, hearing impairment, kidney damage and psychiatric disorders,” the dermatologist added.
Omotoyosi, however, recommended sensitisation of the public on the dangers of bleaching while also advocating the use of moisturisers and sunscreen cream.
She further called on government to check advertisement copies which portray the black race in negative light, saying “Black is beautiful.”

Helicopters drop food items, arms for Boko Haram members - Yobe elders say

Former Minister of Finance, Mallam Adamu Ciroma; former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Ambassador Babagana Kingibe; elder statesman, Shetima Mustapha and other political leaders from Yobe and Borno state yesterday held a press conference in Abuja where they revealed that members of the Islamic sect were being supplied food, medicine and arms with helicopters and wondered why security agents and the state governments have kept mum on this fact.
The elders who met under the umbrella of "Borno Yobe Peoples Forum" wondered why the 20-hilux car convoys of Boko Haram members can move freely and execute their plans without being intercepted by security men who are supposed to monitor movement even with the curfew both states are placed on right now.
They also asked the government to tell Nigerians who directed security officials to leave the Federal Government College, Buni Yadi in Yobe State few hours before the sect members attacked and killed 59 young students last month. Hmmm...continue...
Air Vice Marshal Al-amin Daggash, a former Chief of Air Staff, who spoke on behalf of other elders said
“Are the authorities unaware of helicopters dropping arms and ammunition, food and medical supplies to areas well known to be strong holds of the insurgents? How were the insurgents able to attack the Maiduguri Air-Force Base and demobilise as well as burn planes and other military installations despite existing state of emergency and curfew in the town? How could 20 to 30 Toyota Hilux vehicles move in a convoy freely with subsisting curfew and still go undetected?
“How did a little band of rag-tag misguided youths metamorphose into a well-kitted, well-armed killing machine moving freely in convoy of vehicles and supported by helicopters.
“How did the Shilka Tank, a multipurpose self propelled anti-aircraft  artillery weapon, positioned to secure Giwa Barracks, fail to function resulting in heavy loss of lives of both civilian and military as widely reported in the media? Are we dealing with fifth columnists in this crisis?” he said.
The elders asked that the State of Emergency that the three Northeast states, Yobe, Adamawa and Borno, are currently experiencing should not be extended as it has failed to achieve the purpose for which it was first enforced. According to Daggash, 17,000 people have been killed with over 3million people displaced this year.

Popular hip hop artiste was involved in a terrible accident yesterday along Lagos-Ibadan expressway. He was said to have missed his performance as the coppers were waiting to see him at the NYSC camp shagamu last night due to the accident which occurred due to the collision of his vehicle with another car which resulted in fire. Danny and his crew managed to escape through the windows and doors as other vehicle owners stopped by, bringing out fire extinguisher from various angles and assisted in putting out the fire. We can’t actually say the present condition of Danny young or his team members that were present in the car but news reaching us says they are being hospitalized in an undisclosed private hospital in Lagos.
