Ovia, Elumelu May Return to Zenith, UBA This Year

There are strong indications that the former Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer (MD/CEO) of Zenith Bank Plc, Mr. Jim Ovia, and his erstwhile counterpart at the United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc, Mr. Tony Elumelu will return to their respective financial institutions as either chairmen or non-executive directors by the second half of this year or early next year.
The Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) rule on tenure limit for bank CEOs stipulates that the former bank chiefs can only hold board positions in any bank or its subsidiaries three years after their exit expires.

Leprosy Outbreak In Gombe!!!

The Gombe State Office of the Leprosy and Tuberculosis Control Programme said on Wednesday that it has detected five new leprosy cases among children in the state.
Dr. Mustapha Musa, the Programme Manager, said that the new cases point to a resurgence of leprosy in the state.
Musa said the five cases were detected between January and April this year in Dukku, Yamaltu-Deba and Shongom Local Government Areas.
According to him, leprosy cases in the state had before now, dropped significantly.
“The cases in the state seem to be dropping. In 2011, there were 120 cases, in 2012 it dropped to less than 100 and now the reverse is the case and is manifesting among children,” he said.
Musa lamented that the disease was not receiving the desired attention in spite of its devastating effects.
“Leprosy does not seem to be a public health issue; governments at all levels should take it seriously because of its devastating effect,” adding that measures had been taken to track down the source of the new infections and stop further transmission.
“There is every possibility that somebody within the communities where the children live has the micro organism and is transmitting it,” he said.
He explained that the disease could be transmitted through sneezing and coughing and has an incubation period of three to 10 years before manifesting into full blown leprosy.
Musa said 98 Direct Observatory Therapy Centres had been established in 11 local government areas in the state, adding that treatment for leprosy was free.
The Manager stressed that “If the disease is identified early, there will be no disability, but once it has manifested, it is irreversible.”
He further appealed to the general public to report to the nearest hospital, if they noticed any patch on their skin.

How Boko Haram planned to blow up Aso Rock

 
As the military onslaught against Boko Haram insurgents approaches the two-week mark, new details are emerging of a sinister plot by the dreaded sect to cause destruction on a scale that would have surely dwarfed even its most famed attacks in the past.
According to the Vanguard, before the May 14 declaration of a state of emergency in the North East by President Jonathan, credible intelligence had revealed plans by the sect to hijack commercial planes fully loaded with passengers and use it to attack one of three notable buildings in the nation’s capital.
These buildings are Aso Rock, the seat of the federal government, the Glass House headquarters of the Central Bank in the Central Business District and the Four Towers headquarters of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.
It was gathered that the terrorists would have carried out the attack on Aso Rock and NNPC Towers in a manner similar to the September 11 attack on the Twin Towers in New York. The aim is to send a message that they have taken over the affairs of the country.
The grim revelations do not end there.
Reliable security sources also say that the recent acquisition of anti-aircraft and long-range surface-to-air guns by Boko Haram was intended to shoot down aircraft that flew over the north-eastern part of the country. This was made especially ominous by the fact that the terrorists controlled significant tracts of territory in both Yobe and Borno states.
According to the sources, “Upon our discovery of their plot, security agencies warned the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority and other aviation agencies to stop local and international aircraft from flying over north-eastern airspace.
“This warning was heeded and for about three weeks before the state of emergency was declared, commercial aircraft, both local and international were diverted from the North East with the exception of military aircraft”.
“It was when we tried to unearth the heavy weapons capability of the Boko Haram sect that troops of the multinational Joint Task Force on a reconnaissance mission to the mosque in Baga, where some of the anti-aircraft guns were to be mounted, were attacked. When reinforcements came, they fired the weapons at the soldiers.
“As I am talking to you, many people will not know that in one of the deadly Boko Haram attacks and coordinated bombings in Kano, that resulted in the destruction of the headquarters of the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 1, and the killing of over 120 people, including about 40 Policemen, over 15 Immigration, Customs and Federal Road Safety officers, the terrorists tried to get to Kano Airport”, the source said.
The Vanguard had reported in April, that intelligence had revealed a plot to shoot down the presidential jet during President Goodluck Jonathan’s official visit to Borno and Yobe states. The security apparatus swiftly deployed interception technology to forestall the attack.

Bus Preacher Beaten To Coma In Lagos After Condoms Fall From Bible

A bus preacher was almost lynched on Saturday morning at Toyota Bus stop, in front of the popular Ladipo Spare parts market, when some condoms allegedly fell out of his bible as he preached the ‘Word of God’.
otohmillar gathered that the self acclaimed Man of God was dragged out of the commercial bus and beaten into a pulp before he was rescued by some policemen.
According to information made available to otohmillar, the Pastor had embarked on his journey from Apapa and proceeded to preach to the people on the bus, using very strong words like “If you wear trouser you’ll go to hell! The Devil invented Make up! Weave-on is from Marine Kingdom! If you have pre-marital sex you will burn in hell and your skin will peel!”
It was learnt that the people in the bus were so moved and some started falling under the anointing.
According to an eye witness, Mr. John Mbakogu, who was on his way to his shop at Ladipo, “People were just falling as he was laying hands. One man almost fell out of the bus under the influence of the Spirit. It was amazing until he raised his hands to cast the demons out of one girl, and 2 Durex condoms fell out”
“The angry men in the bus who had been having pangs of guilt due to the pastor’s preaching about sex suddenly got really angry and pounced on him, who all of a sudden started shouting, I also preach safe sex! Safe sex is good!”
However, Policemen had to be called to the scene to save the pastors life. So far 2 arrests have been made, and the Condoms have been kept as evidence.

Second Woolwich killer identified as Michael Oluwatobi Adebowale

The other Woolwich killer has been identified as Michael Oluwatobi Adebowale, 22, of Greenwich, southeast London (Pictured left). Like Michael Adebolajo, he's also a British citizen of Nigerian descent, though not much is known about his family.
More info about Michael Olumide Akinbiyi Adebolajo (pictured right). He was born on December 10, 1984, at Kings College Hospital in Lambeth, South London. His Nigerian-born father, Anthony Adebolajo was a student at the time, and went on to become an NHS nurse.
His mother, Tina, the niece of a university law professor in Benin, West Africa, was a housewife but she too dedicated herself to public duty by becoming a social worker. He has three younger siblings: a brother named Jeremiah and two sisters named Blessing and Christiana.
Michael was born into a Christian family but embraced Islam around the age of 16. He attended the University in Greenwich, South-East London, and was once locked up for violent behavior.

Northern elders had on Thursday blasted ex-militant leader, Dokubo Asari over his open comment that Nigeria will boil if Jonathan is not re-elected in 2015.
The NEF took very serious exception to the threat by the militant leader, who vowed to confront the opposition if Jonathan is not re-elected in 2015, saying that it was a threat to national security.
The elders, who spoke through their spokesman, Prof Ango Abdullahi said “Dokubo is a coward who will flee in event of war.
“From the antecedents of Asari Dokubo, we believe that he is making these empty boasts apparently because of the filthy lucre he is getting from pipeline contracts and the promise of more. But we can bet Nigerians that he would be the first person to flee to the creeks if the war he is threatening breaks out”, the group noted.
It further flayed President Goodluck Jonathan for ordering the release of terror suspects from prisons across the region.
According to the forum, he would one day be made to account for the woman and children seized by security agents based on unverified terrorism charges.
Abdullahi said, “The arrogance of Shekau and his group is unislamic. Which President if not Goodluck, will accept somebody to tell him to become a Muslim or resign?
“Let me tell you that what the government did by ordering the release of suspected terrorists was
borne out of shame and guilt being suffered by it for clamping innocent women and children into detention camps or what you may call Nigeria’s ‘Guantanamo Bay’, which are scattered all over the place,” Adbullahi said.
“We note with delight that at last, common sense has prevailed and the embattled families have
regained their freedom. But we hasten to add that this government must account for the women and children from the north, who they took into unwarranted detention. As far as we are concerned, the release of the so-called terror suspects should have been done long ago,” he added.

Orange seller who allegedly acted as spy for Boko Haram nabbed with N600m

The General Officer Commanding,GOC, 1 Division Nigerian Army, Kaduna, Major-General Garba Wahab, has announced the apprehension of a suspected orange seller who spied for terrorists and had over N600 million in his bank account within three months.
Wahab whose area command covers the north-western region, made this shocking revelation while addressing newsmen in Kaduna relating to why the Army is carrying out general search without discrimination.
He said, “When we stop those who are hawking and carrying wheelbarrow, and we said we want to check, people will shout, ‘Why are you disturbing the average person?’ And I give you example; we arrested somebody here calledmai lemu (orange seller) in Kawo here. And in three months when we checked through his account, over 600 million naira has passed through that man’s account, and he sells orange here by Kawo bridge.
“He was there as a lookout. He was like a spy. He looks around, gets information and feeds these guys, saying, this is what is happening. That is why I said we are not dealing with idiots. We are dealing with people who have one or two guys working and thinking, and giving them information. And we know that before they attack, they must look at the softest locations.”
The army boss added that it is a crime that the media and the society must cooperate and ensure it is brought to an abrupt end.
Speaking on the Thursday’s attacks in Daura, he stated that the military personnel stick to the principles of rules of engagement, saying, “I called this press conference to fill the gap on the attack that occurred in Daura, Katsina state. We don’t want a situation where people will be speculating. Yes, the criminals came, they bombed vehicles, and they packed money using improvised explosive devices (IEDs) to bomb everywhere. Nobody will give an instruction for an innocent life to be lost, so in whatever we do, we keep to the rules of engagement given to us and that is why I have called the media to lend us their support because when a few reports go out, it’s like it is encouraging the criminals and they start to think they have the upper hand.
