N1tn Spent on N’Assembly Members in The Last Eight Years

 A former Minister of Education, Mrs Oby Ezekwesili,  on Monday said Nigeria had spent over  N1tn on  the National Assembly members   in the last eight years.
Ezekwesili, in a keynote address delivered during one-day dialogue session on the ‘Cost of governance in Nigeria, “ added that  banks earned N699bn as interests last year  on loans secured by the government.
“Since 2005, the National Assembly members alone have been allocated N1tr,’’she said while also lamenting that “82 per cent of Nigeria’s budgetary cost goes for recurrent expenditure.” To buttress her claim that  much was being spent   servicing those in government, she said that   “ a research conducted in the United Kingdom identified Nigerian legislators as being the highest paid in the world.”
Punch reports that the National Assembly members were unhappy with her assessment and said  her claim amounted to blackmail.

A sex starved housewife identified as Maureen (surname withheld), a native of Benin City, Edo State, in Asaba, Delta State, has allegedly poisoned her husband with “Chemical poison”, leaving him admitted into the hospital.
It was learnt that the suspect had complained bitterly to her relations of the husband’s “lack of sexual attention” to her, and threatened to make life unbearable for him, but was advised to “drop” such sinister plans.
Sources said the husband allegedly swim in litany of sex scandals especially with married women and in most cases, his victims attack the wife to call the husband to order.
As it were, the incident took place on Sunday night when the victim who lives around Otuogu, Asaba, reportedly returned home late and was perceived to have been drunk by the wife who had allegedly prepared his meal with the Chemical substance that was given to him.
Trouble started when after he ate the meal and was vomiting; a process neighbours who heard his screaming dashed to the scene and rushed him to a nearby hospital where the doctors diagnosed him of food poisoning after a long battle.
A senior police office who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime saying she committed the act to teach him a lesson.

Dead man wakes up after three days in mortuary, recounts ordeal

 The story of retired soldier, Kayode Sotunde, is akin to biblical Jesus Christ who died and resurrected after three days.
But differently, the 49-year-old man was neither on a rescue mission like Messiah who paid the debt he did not owe nor was coerced to go through the Calvary tortures like Jesus did for the sake of humanity.
However, the story of this man who returned from the great beyond is worth celebrating.
April 11 this year, Sotunde embarked on a journey from Gboko, in Benue State to Kano, but unfortunately, the bus conveying the ex-soldier crashed on the way, claiming him and 17 others passengers on board.
However, Sotunde woke up three days after in the mortuary, where his body and others were deposited for their families to claim for burial.
According to the ‘old soldier’ who refuses to die, his corpse was taken out of the mortuary and was being prepared for burial when he suddenly came back to life.
He narrated his experience to Sunday Sun in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Woman pours oil on man for refusing marriage proposal

25-year-old Victoria Alonge, has been sentenced to one-year in jail for pouring hot oil on her boyfriend, Roland Nna, over his refusal to marry her.
Senior Magistrate, Omolola Akindele, summarily sentenced Alonge without an option of fine after the convict admitted, yesterday, to committing the offence at a Karu Senior Magistrates’ court.
Alonge was arraigned by the police on a one-count charge of causing grievous hurt on Nna, her boyfriend, who lives in Kurudu, Abuja.
The Police Prosecutor, Corporal Paschal Njoku, had earlier told the court that Nna reported the incident at Kurudu Police Station on August 11.
Njoku said Alonge went to Nna’s house at about 4:30 a.m. on the fateful day and poured hot oil on him while he was asleep, resulting in grievous hurt to his body.
He said she was immediately arrested by the police, based on the report and confession to committing the crime before the police. But while in detention, Alonge threatened to inflict more harm on the victim.
The prosecutor urged the court to summarily punish the accused since she did not deny the charge brought against her.
In her defence, Alonge told the court that her estranged lover dated her for over four years and promised to marry her, only for him to change his mind after falling in love with another woman in Abuja.
“I did that to teach him a bitter less on because he refused to marry me after dating me for over four years.
“He fooled me and my parents and ditched me after finding a new lover here in Abuja. I live in Lagos with my parents,” she said.

Akwa Ibom LG Chairman Caught With Smuggled $82,000 In The USA

 The Maryland State Police Department, USA on Sunday morning confirmed the arrest of the Executive Chairman of Udim local government area of Akwa Ibom state, Mr. Nse Ntuen, for smuggling $82, 000 into the United States without declaring it with the Customs officials both in Nigeria and the US.
Nse Ntuen, the Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), was on Friday arrested by operatives of the Maryland State Police Department at the BWI International Airport, Baltimore.
When contacted by our correspondent, Mr. Strike Thomas, an official of the Maryland State Police Department at the airport, said that the suspect only declared $5,000 when he got to the airport, adding that it was further security checks that indicated that he was still having some bundles of US Dollars in his bag.
The official who agreed to be quoted pressed further that the chairman who flew into the United Stated from London, United Kingdom was later taken to their investigation room where an additional $77, 000 was found in his bag.
It was gathered that Hon. Nse Ntuen accepted that he truly smuggled the money into the USA with the aim to use it as donations at the just-concluded Annual International Convention of the Akwa Ibom Indigenes in the United States and Canada which was held at the Marriot Hotel in Washington, DC.
The suspect was later made to write and sign a statement where he accepted that he brought in items which he failed to declared to both the Nigerian and United States Custom agencies. -
The official, who spoke with our correspondent, further disclosed that the Akwa Ibom state ALGON Chairman who was held for over five hours was later released after the whole $82, 000 he admitted to have smuggled into the country was confiscated by the Maryland State Police Department.

 The question is, where did he get that money from – I’m sure his local government is one of the impoverished ones. God help Nigeria!!!!!

Doctors have removed a 10cm long steel fork from inside a man’s penis, after a sexual adventure went horribly wrong. The 70-year-old visited Canberra Hospital’s emergency department complaining of bleeding genitalia. Patience - Amaechi And His Wife Refused To Pay Me Condolence Visit

 President Goodluck Jonathan’s wife, Patience Jonathan, has decried the failure of Governor Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers State to pay her a condolence visit since her mother died in an automobile accident several weeks ago. In a statement released today in Abuja, Mrs. Jonathan all but declared Mr. Amaechi and his wife guilty of bad manners for refusing to express their sympathy over her mother’s death.
The First Lady’s statement was a reaction to reports that she had failed to recognize the presence of Rivers State Deputy Governor, Tele Ikuru, who was at the Port Harcourt International Airport to receive her when she visited the state on Sunday.
In a statement signed by the First Lady’s Director of Information, Ms. Ayo Adesugba, Mrs. Jonathan stated that, despite the refusal of the governor and his wife to pay her a condolence visit, she bore them no grudge

The couple tied the knot at a royal wedding in Loughgall Presbyterian Church, Northern Ireland – the Prince’s father HRM Oba Idowu Abiodun Oniru and Queen Olori Arike Oniru attended the service which was conducted by Rev Philip McKelvey.
The royal couple are due to travel to Monaco and then St Tropez for their honeymoon, but plan to set up a base in Northern Ireland.

Venezuela's Maduro pledges action on women's hair thieves.

 Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has called on the police to act against gangs that are stealing women's hair.
The thieves sell the hair - sometimes stolen at gunpoint - to salons where it is used for extensions and wigs.
Attacks appear to be on the rise, especially in the country's second largest city Maracaibo, local media report.
Mr Maduro used strong language against what he called "mafias that cut girls' hair".
Speaking at the inauguration of a train station in the capital Caracas, he said the government would guarantee that the thieves would be caught.
Several women have reportedly been targeted, being asked to tie their hair into ponytails so that gang members can easily cut it off.
However, the BBC's Irene Caselli in Venezuela says authorities are yet to receive any formal complaints.
One victim told a local newspaper that she refused to report the case to the police because she feared being teased.

Lagos re-opens Kalu’s house, gives him 14 days to pay Land Use charge debt

 The Lagos State Government on Tuesday explained why it shut a building belonging to a former Governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu.
The state said Kalu defaulted in the payment of his Land Use Charge, an annual fee paid by all landlords for their property in Lagos State
The house is located in Park View, Ikoyi, a highbrow area of the state.
A statement by the state government said that contrary to the political undertones read into the sealing of the property, Kalu had failed to pay the fees despite the three notices served him.
The development comes a week after Kalu criticized the state Governor, Babatunde Fashola, for deporting some indigenes of Anambra state.
But the government stated that following the intervention of Governor Babatunde Fashola, the house has been re-opened with a warning that Kalu pays the charge within fourteen days of grace.
The statement reads: “The attention of the Lagos State Government has been drawn to a misleading claim by a businessman, Mr. Orji Uzor Kalu that his Ikoyi home has been sealed off following a threat to sue the Lagos State Government over an unrelated matter.
“We wish to state, for the avoidance of doubt, that nothing could be further from the truth. The fact is that Mr. Orji Uzor Kalu’s property in Park View Estate, Ikoyi was distrained pursuant to Section 40 of the Revenue Administration Law of Lagos State for failure to pay the statutory annual land use charge despite three separate notices delivered to the said property.
“As a government driven by law and process, the Lagos State Government will ordinarily expect all law abiding residents to discharge their responsibilities to the state.
“If, in spite of failing to do so, Mr. Orji Uzor Kalu wants to give ethnic colouration to a routine performance of its duties by an agency of the state government, which in this case is the Land Use Charge Office, under the Ministry of Finance, he is welcome to do so.
“However it should be noted that when the issue was brought to the attention of the Governor, Tuesday evening, he directed the agency to unseal the property and that an additional 14 days grace period be given to Mr. Kalu to pay the said charge.
“It should be emphasised that notices like these are served on defaulting property owners on a regular basis who either comply or contact the Agency to raise any objections they might have to such notice. Mr. Orji Uzor Kalu, like every other citizen, must fulfil his obligation to the State,”it said.

14-year-old Schoolboy Sexually Assaulted Teacher In Locked Classroom

A 14-year-old schoolboy has been jailed after he barricaded his teacher inside a classroom then laughed as he sexually assaulted her.
Desperate colleagues tried to break down the door when they heard the teacher screaming for help but could not stop the boy, now 15, from Wrexham.
Staff fought their way into the school's computer room and pulled the 'distressed and terrified' teacher to safety.
The teenager, who admitted intimate assault and was sentenced to four years’ youth detention, had put his hand up her skirt and forced himself on her.
Prosecutor Karl Scholz told Mold Crown Court: 'The teacher and the boy were in the classroom when he closed the door and snapped the latch shut.
'He told her he had things on his mind and took hold of her and hugged her.
'She managed to get away and wanted to leave the room but realised the door was locked.
'The schoolboy then put his hand up the teacher’s skirt and carried out a serious intimate assault on her.'
Mr Scholz said staff outside could hear their colleague scream and the boy laughing.
When they eventually got in the teacher was 'very distressed' and had a 'terrified' expression on her face.
Mold Crown Court court was told the teacher had been unable to return to work since the horrific school sex attack at the 700-pupil high school in North Wales.
The schoolboy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had previous convictions for two intimate assaults and was on bail for a third when he attacked his teacher.
Steven Edwards, defending, said the boy had suffered a difficult childhood and had been the victim of abuse.
Judge Greg Bull QC told the schoolboy: 'You attacked one of your teachers, barricaded her into the computer room and forced yourself on her.
'It was a terrifying experience for a woman who was only there to try and help you.'
The teenager was also placed on the sex offenders’ register for life.
