Lagos State Government Bans Molue From Lagos Island

Lagos State Government Bans Molue From Lagos Island
The Lagos State Government, on Thursday, banned operators of commercial buses, popularly called ‘Molue’, from crossing the Third Mainland, Eko and Carter Bridges into the Lagos Island.
The restriction order, contained in a statement signed by Bola Ajao, Public Relations Officer (PRO), Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), also affects the Lagos Central Business District.
The statement said the decision was reached at a stakeholders’ meeting between the state government and the Lagos Urban Bus Owners Association of Nigeria (LUBON), operators of the buses, on Wednesday.
“Although the new directive was effective since 19th of August, 2012, but Lagos State believes in enlightenment before enforcement and therefore decided to shift the enforcement to 4th of this month,” the statement said. “The officials of the LASTMA have been mandated to ensure strict compliance and impound any vehicle after September 4, 2013 that is found to have flouted the directive.”
It said that the operators could perform their operations in any part of the state aside from the restricted areas.
“The Lagos State Government had not banned the operations of Molue in the state, but rather it has restricted their operations to areas like Orile, Iyana Ipaja, Mile 2, Mile 12 and Agege,” the statement said. “The prohibited routes include Iddo, Ebute Ero, Apongbon, Obalende, Idumota, and CMS, among others.”
The statement, urged operators to voluntarily comply with the new directives, and called for cooperation and support from all stakeholders.
