Meet King Togbe Ngoryifia Céphas Kosi Bansah, the 66-year-old king of the Hohoe area of southeastern Ghana, who governs his people via Skype.
According to The Independent, Bansah once moved to Germany to attend school as a foreign exchange student, but decided not to return to Ghana after he met and fell in love with a woman named Gabrielle, who is now his wife.
He became the king of Hohoe in 1987, after the death of his grandfather, who was the reigning king.
Sources says “he was chosen over his elder brother and father because both are left-handed, an attribute that his people believe is unclean and indicative of dishonesty.”
Reports state that Bansah runs a garage in Germany, but still finds time to govern the 200,000 people of Hohoe via Skype and telephone calls, often staying awake all night to rule and settle tribal disputes.
He recently made headlines after thieves broke into his home in Ludwigshafen, and stole most of his royal regalia, including his crowns and golden chains his grandparents once owned. The stolen items were valued at £15,900.

Emir of Kano, Sanusi visits scene of Central Mosque bomb blast

The Emir of Kano, Muhammed Sanusi II who was out of Nigeria when the bomb blast at the Central Mosque in Kano occurred, arrived Nigeria today and went straight to the scene of the the attack to assess the situation.
During his 20 minutes visit to the blast scene, the Emir said with the way the attacks were carried out, it showed it was well planned and had taken the perpetrators close to two months to plan it.
“From all indications, they (attackers) have been planning this for at least two months. I have directed that the mosque be washed and cleaned and prayers should continue here. We will never be intimidated into abandoning our religion, which is the intention of the attackers” he said

Overland plane crash-lands in Ilorin, 63 escape death

Fifty nine passengers and four crew members escaped death by the whiskers today when an Overland plane from Abuja overshot the runway at the Ilorin airport.
A statement by the General Manager, Public Affairs, of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, Mr. Fan Ndubuoke, said no life was lost in the incident, which he added, was already being investigated.
The statement read, “An Overland flight 1186, an ATR 72 aircraft with Registration number 5N-BPG from Abuja airport to Ilorin, carrying fifty nine passengers and four crew members,veered off the runway at low speed after a normal landing at the Ilorin Airport.
“The incident which occurred today Saturday, November 29, at 4.45pm, has no casualty recorded. However, the Accident and Prevention Bureau in conjunction with the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority has begun an investigation into the cause of the incident.
“The authority wishes to use this medium to reassure Nigerians that safety of the traveling public is still paramount and cannot be compromised.”
A source told one of our correspondents that three professors –a former Vice Chancellor, University of Ilorin, Prof. Ishaq Oleyede, Prof. Lanre Badmus and one unnamed professor — were  on board the flight.
One of the passengers, Mr. Ayuba Balami, commended the pilot for showing great experience by maneuvering the plane to safety.
However, the airline said the the plane did not crash-land at the Ilorin airport on Saturday.
A statement by the management of Overland, which confirmed the incident and insisted that there was no crash.
‎It said, “‎It was a normal flight to Ilorin and standard procedures of flight were followed. The aircraft  landed safely at Ilorin Airport at 1645hrs as scheduled and decelerated  to a low speed, and in turning off the active runway, veered off the pavement.
“At the directive of the Pilot In Command, our cabin crew calmly evacuated all the 59 passengers safely and they were moved to the airport terminal. No passengers or crew sustained any injuries whatsoever.
“Our Ilorin passengers have since collected their baggage and gone home while the Ibadan Airport bound passengers will continue on Overland Airways to Ibadan Airport.”

I Designed Master Plan For N/Delta Development, Says Atiku

A presidential aspirant of the All progressives Congress and former Vice-President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar on Friday, revealed that the master plan for the development of the Niger Delta region was his brain-child and decried its improper implementation by the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua-led administration.
The former vice president, who said he came up with the master plan prior to losing the 2007 presidential election, added that the late Yar’Adua, who won the poll, adopted the concept and started implementing it without having some other salient details.
Mr. Abubakar spoke in Calabar, the Cross River State capital, while addressing delegates of the APC from the state, who will take part in the presidential primary of the party next month.
The Turakin Adamawa said part of the component of the master plan included the amnesty programme, the coast guard and the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs.
He said, “I initiated the master plan for the Niger Delta but the late President Yar’Adua who tried to implement it started with the amnesty programme. The PDP government has not been able to implement the master plan because the party did not initiate it. I was not consulted so the party made some mistakes.
“The reason the policy on development of the Niger Delta is not working is that the people implementing it are not the originators. If I become President, I will be in a better position to implement it.
“You need a candidate who knows and understands your environment and will help you develop it. I will ensure that the master plan is implemented to the latter. I stand out because of my political experience. I have made more contributions than any of my contemporaries running for the position of the President”.
Mr. Abubakar, therefore, appealed to delegates to give him a chance, maintaining that he was de-tribalised and would work for the common good of the country.

The Lagos state Police command has rescued one Miss Sa’adat Bibire, who is the current Miss Nigeria International 2014 & daughter of an aide to Kwara state Governor, from her abductors.

The beauty queen was abducted two weeks ago by a gang of kidnappers who lured her into visiting Warri, Delta state from Lagos by impersonating Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote on the social media platform facebook.
Pardaing the suspects before journalists on Wednesday, the Lagos state police commissioner, said “the gang is made up of students of the Delta state Polytechnic Ozoro…they opened a Facebook account disguising as Aliko Dangote and contacted Sa'adat.
They invited her to Warri with the promise to make her Dangote brand ambassador. On getting to Warri, Sa'adat was kidnapped and taken to a place on the outskirts of Ozoro town in Isoko Local Government Area in Delta state. The kidnappers then contacted her family and asked for N20m ransom, which was supposed to be paid into a Malaysian account.  We began a manhunt for them after they contacted the girl’s family but only one of them was arrested while the others are currently on the run.”
In his statement to the police, one of her abductors, 23 year old Patrick Ifada said he was lured into the kidnap gang because of the money offered
"I accepted to join the gang because of the money involved. We opened a fake Facebook account pretending to be Alhaji Aliko Dangote and we convinced her to come over to Delta State to meet the businessman. At first, our ransom was N20 million.

When they were not forthcoming with the money, we brought it down to N15 million and then N10 million. I was the one staying with the victim in our hideout. We were using the quarters of one of our members, Destiny. We are five in number and I was promised a huge sum. Other gang members are Destiny, Marcus Omajuwa, Ugada and Chuka.

We are all students of Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro, ND 1. I was studying Computer Science. She was in our hideout for about two weeks. We asked the Special Adviser to pay the ransom into a Malaysian account that one Fred helped us to set up. None of us raped her. Destiny told us we were only going to make money from her family, and not to assault her"

120 persons died in yesterday's mosque bomb explosions

No fewer than 120 died and 270 were injured on Friday as the violent Boko Haram sect bombed the 10,000 capacity Kano Central Mosque where the Emir, Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, usually leads prayers.
About 10 gunmen went on a shooting spree after the blast at the mosque, which is close to the Emir of Kano’s palace.

OAU students boo, stone Jonathan; call president ‘ole’

President Goodluck Jonathan got more than he bargained for on Friday during his visit to the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife (OAU).
The students who were apparently tired of Jonathan’s government could not hold back their anger as they stoned and booed the president chanting "Ole, Ole, Ole,Ole" which in Yoruba means thief.

Jonathan, who was at the OAU to attend a summit by a Yoruba group, had used the occasion to identify with the Yorubas as the 2015 general election approaches praising the achievements of the Yoruba leaders in Nigerian history.
But the students of the university were not amused by his praise as they displayed placards with inscription such as: "we are not responsible for Jonathan's ineptitude", "Don’t sell education like you sold electricity", "We demand total reversal of 2014 hiked school fees" etc.
The students, who were later chased by security men also booed Ekiti state governor, Ayo Fayose, who tried to calm them down.

7 drug traffickers nabbed on one flight excrete 8.7kg cocaine(Photos)

Forty-nine-year-old Fred Obi was about to board an Ethiopian Air flight from Abuja to Tel Aviv, Israel with a strange cargo allegedly concealed in his stomach when the law caught up with him. He had ingested 1.594kg of cocaine.
But he was not the only one boarding that same flight with the intention of transporting narcotics they had ingested on November 22, 2014 when they were arrested by men of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
Also arrested were Ekechi Ferdinand, 36; Okonkwo Paul, 20; Azubuogu Obumneme, 30; Okechi Anthony, 34; Anozie Henry, 34 and Okafor Francis, 51.
According to Punch,NDLEA spokesperson, Mr. Mitchell Ofoyeju, confirmed that the raid which was headed by the agency’s commander at the Abuja Airport, Mr. Hamisu Lawan, would turn out to be a revealing one.
The suspects, who were said to have been arrested and isolated, were soon made to excrete the drug they had ingested.
“The last of the suspects eventually finished excreting the drugs in his stomach this morning (Thursday, November 26),”
Ferdinand excreted 1.616kg of cocaine, Paul – 1.103kg, Obumneme – 1.450kg, Anthony – 935 grammes while Henry exctreted 874 grammes of cocaine. The oldest of the suspects, Francis, on his part excreted 1.167kg.
All the suspects, except Obi, were said to have Hong Kong as the destination on their tickets.
NDLEA Chairman, Ahmadu Giade, said that the arrest of the suspects was an added victory to the war against drug trafficking in the country.

He said,
Having seven suspected drug traffickers on a single flight is a reflection of the desperation of drug cartels.“But this will prove to them that the NDLEA has the capacity to stop drug trafficking no matter what method they employ.
“Fortunately for the suspects as well, our arrest has saved their lives because for the suspects heading to Hong Kong, it is clearly stated in their visas that drug trafficking in Hong Kong attracts the death penalty. Nigeria has equally been saved from an embarrassment their arrest would have caused if they were caught over there.”

Jonathan Has Killed Many Edo Indigenes – Oshiomhole

Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole has accused President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration of killing many Edo indigenes due to the alleged refusal by the President to give ecological funds to areas devastated by erosion in the state and many other APC states.
He expressed regret that the president could be bias along party lines where it concerns the lives of Nigerians. He noted that the Edo people who he has now deserted gave him 95 percent of their votes in 2011. He therefore stressed the need for Jonathan and his party to be voted out in 2015.

Nigeria May End Up Borrowing To Pay Salaries – Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has criticized the proposed oil benchmark of Nigeria’s 2015 budget, saying it puts Nigeria’s economy in a bad position.
Speaking on Wednesday, at the presentation of an autobiography of the former president of the Court of Appeal and pioneer chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), retired Justice Mustapha Akanbi in Abuja, Obasanjo said the country may end up borrowing to pay salaries.
Although, the Federal Government had proposed a review of the oil benchmark from 77.5 dollars to 73 dollars for the 2015 budget, following continued decline in oil prices, the former president, apparently oblivious of the new development said “With the figure of $78 per barrel as benchmark, we will be in a bind if oil price falls to $75 per barrel.
“I am made to understand that Saudi Arabia used $68 as benchmark for the 2015 budget. Our inadequate protection of almost all local industries with heavy cost of energy has dealt a hard blow on most indigenous industries,” he pointed out.
Obasanjo said that if the country does not expedite action and do something about the current situation, it will get to a point where Nigeria would not be able to fund its budget. “We may have to borrow to pay salaries and allowances”, he said.
He also described the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan as one supportive of corruption. This, he said has greatly harmed the economy.
“For quite some time, the covered and hushed up corruption has had its toll on the economy,” he said.
He also stressed the need for Nigeria to diversify its economy, saying “Our continued heavy dependence on one commodity has not adequately prepared us against any shock in that one commodity in the international plane.”
The price of OPEC basket of twelve crudes stood at $73.70 a barrel on Wednesday.
