Anambra First Lady Denies Slapping Deputy Govs Wife in Public

Earlier this week, news went viral that wife of Anambra State Governor, Her Excellency, Mrs Ebere Jennifer Ukamaka Obiano slapped the wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs Okeke.
Trouble reportedly started on Sunday November 16, after the dedication of the child of the Anglican Bishop of Awka, His Lordship Most Rev. Dr. Ibezim at the cathedral of St. Faith, Awka. The wife of the deputy Governor complained to Dr. Alex Ekwueme as a mother of all on how Ebere Obiano does not carry her along in whatever she does.
Feeling the need to broker peace between the women, Ekwueme’s Wife, HE, Beatrice Ekwueme, accosted Mrs Obiano and advised her on the need to carry everybody, especially the wife of the deputy Governor along.
At this point, Mrs Obiano flayed and claimed that the constitution recognizes her and not the Wife of the Deputy.
Immediately her Deputy shouted back, she slapped her. It took the intervention of security men to prevent the duo from physical fight.
In the quarrel, the wife of the Deputy Governor told her that she cannot kill her as she killed her maid nor slap her as she usually slaps drivers.
As the exchange of foul words continued, Sir Victor Umeh took the deputy governor who was there away as he felt completely dejected.
In response to the drama – Anambra State government, on Friday, issued a ststament denying there was ever a fight, let alone a slapping match.
The statement says those peddling the rumour were only out to create tension in the state.
The special assistant to the deputy on media, Mrs. Stella Igboka said both women currently enjoy a cordial relationship and urged the people of the state to ignore the story circulating on social media.
The statement reads: “Our attention has been drawn to a publication on the Internet alleging that Her Excellency, the wife of the Deputy Governor of Anambra State Mrs Oby Okeke was slapped by Her Excellency, the wife of the State Governor, Chief Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano at a function in Awka on Sunday last week.‎
“Her Excellency, Mrs Oby Okeke, had initially dismissed and ignored the purported allegation as a mere figment of imagination of rumour mongers, but having been pestered with calls and enquiries from friends and well meaning Ndi Anambra, It became necessary to set the record straight in order not to mislead the citizens into believing such a fabricated, unfounded and baseless story.
“There is no iota of truth in the said story, the publication is malicious and whoever concocted that does not mean well for Anambra state and should not be taken seriously.
“Those peddling propaganda only want to create unnecessary friction where non exists between the wives of the Governor and his deputy who are enjoying a cordial relationship and working harmoniously in supporting their husbands in their statutory obligations of moving the state to an enviable height.
“While assuring the citizens of Her Excellency’s Mrs Oby Okeke’s unflinching loyalty and support to the wife of the State Governor, Chief Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano (Osodieme) there is need to state equivocally that no level of smear campaign or calumny would distract the amiable wives of the Governor and his deputy from working as a formidable team in support of their husbands for peace and progress of Anambra State.”
