Female professor donates N35m radio station to UNIZIK
First Nigerian female Professor of Mass Communication, Chinyere Stella Okunna, has donated a radio station to the Department of Mass Communication, Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, Anambra State built at the cost of N35 million.
The station, equipped with the state-of-the-art facilities for transmission, also has a control room, digital consul, transmitter room and an adjoining hall of about 300-seater capacity.
Commissioning the project, the former governor of Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi, said qualitative information dissemination remains one of the key tools to societal development.
Obi, while eulogizing the donor, who was his former commissioner for budget and economic planning, for her generosity, pointing out that an informed society, is better positioned to make informed choices capable of uplifting the people.
Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Joseph Ahaneku, said that the Governing Council of the institution has approved the establishment of Institute of Diplomacy and Governance Centre for research in issues of governance.
Prof. Okunna who was the Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences of the institution said she build the radio station through direct labour as a legacy she would leave behind to a department that had much impact on the lives of the people.
