Students of the University of Abuja on Monday protested the lack power and water supply to the permanent campus site of the university.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that more than 1,000 students gathered on the campus about 8am on Monday and barricaded road leading to the Senate building and classes.
Some of them told NAN that the protest became necessary because the school authorities had not provided power and water at the campus for three months running. Continue...
Mr Mike Ajeoja, a Theatre student, said those of them living in hostel at the permanent site had no power and water for the past three months.
Ajeoja said they had drawn the attention of the school management to their plight, but nothing had been done to address the situation.
“We are left with no choice then to come out and tell the world our problems.
“We will not stop the protest unless our problems are solved,” he said.
A female student, who pleaded for anonymity, said she had not had her bath for some days as a result of lack of water.
According to her, some of students use sachet water to bath, cook and even wash clothes.
“We are tired of staying without water and light. We wear squeezed clothes to the classes and we do not want such situation to continue,” she added.
The Information Officer of the school, Mr Waziri Garba, confirmed the situation to NAN on telephone, saying the students were protesting lack of power and water supply in the school.
Garba, however, appealed to them to remain calm, assuring that the school management was already taking steps to resolve the problem.
Meanwhile, Baro Ahmad, the Business Manager, Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, Gwagwalada, said it was not true that the school had no power for three months running.
He blamed power outage on the campus on some electrical problems which, he said, the company was working on.
Ahmad assured the students and school management that steady power would be restored to the campus.
“By 4 p.m. today (Monday), there will be steady power supply to the permanent site,” he said.
A boy in Daya Village, Fika LGA of Yobe State, today Monday March 31st allegedly killed his younger brother and removed his tongue and eyes, Premium Times reports
A resident of Daya, Ishmail Daya, said that the younger boy had gone missing three days ago and that while a search was going on in the village, the older brother was found with his brother’s tongue and eyes.
“He killed his younger brother and buried him on his father’s farmland,” Ishmail said.
Both the alleged killer and the victim are believed to be underage. He insisted that there had been no prior quarrel between the siblings.
“There was no fight, he just killed his brother. Though investigation is still going on, but there was no fight,” he said.
The district head and Galadima of Fika, Fika LGA, Garba Daya, confirmed the incident.
“Yes, it actually happened in Daya,” he said, adding that the killer was currently in police custody.
Efforts to reach the Yobe Police command proved futile as the state Commissioner of Police, Sanusi Rufai, did not pick his calls or respond to text messages as at press time.
A posthumous Michael Jackson album is due to be released in May, five years after the death of the ‘King of Pop’. The album which is set to thrill fans have eight previously unreleased songs.
According to Epic Records, the album, due for release on 13 May, has been titled “XSCAPE”, which is also one of the new tracks mined from Jackson’s archives.
After gaining access to four decades of the late singer’s material, Epic Records, a subsidiary of Sony, chose eight songs that featured completed vocal tracks by Jackson.
The record company then asked producers to ‘contemporize’ the music while “retaining Jackson’s essence and integrity”, a statement by Epic Records read.
Among the producers engaged to give a modern edge to the tracks were global hitmakers Timbaland, Rodney Jerkins, Stargate and John McClain. A deluxe edition will include a selection of the recordings in their original form.
John Branca and John McClain, co-executors of Jackson’s estate said: “Michael was always on the cutting edge and was constantly reaching out to new producers, looking for new sounds. He was always relevant and current. These tracks, in many ways, capture that spirit.”
Epic Records published its first posthumous Jackson album in 2010. “Michael” included nine previously unreleased songs, mostly drawn from the singer’s final recording sessions.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has said that he has forgiven his ex-vice-president Atiku Abubakar and other persons perceived to have offended him in one way or the other.
Atiku, who was vice president to Obasanjo between 1999 and 2007 was believed to done a lot of things against Obasanjo in a bid to outshine him and get the support of some governors to contest for president.
Reacting to the request of the Northern Youth Leaders Forum, NYLF, at the end of a two-day meeting in the Abeokuta area of Ogun State on Sunday, Obasanjo said as a father, he did not harbour any ill-feelings against anyone. He also said if there is anyone who felt otherwise, he had forgiven such a person.
The NYLF had begged Obasanjo openly: “In view of this, we humbly request that you forgive your former vice president, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar for whatever political sin or offence he might have committed against you. We bow ourselves before you on his behalf and plead for mercy and understanding.”
In his response, Obasanjo said:
“On the request that you made yesterday, I do not have any grudge against anybody. And if there is any, I have forgiven all as a father.”
The respected former leader commended the group for coming to Abeokuta to seek a way forward for the country, stressing that “Since 2003, the effort of your group has been noteworthy. I’m happy that you have also increased in number. Let me appreciate all your support since 2003 and urge you to continue by ensuring that credible leaders are elected in 2015.”
The leader of the delegation and NYLF national chairman, Elliot Afiyo said “The leadership is in Abeokuta to visit our Baba to identify with his vision for our great country, Nigeria.
“We have come to you (Obasanjo) as a father, indeed, an elder statesman for sure, an advanced citizen par excellence, an honest and forthright leader, courageous and bold democrat, loving and compassionate.”
He noted that with such positive attributes, Obasanjo had no option than “to chastise and later forgive and embrace both the good and bad characters.
The youth group said they will do everything to ensure that only credible men win elections in 2015.
It’s no secret that you always had your time with him in the evenings. Achacha’s last 24 hours before his death, how were they like? What actually killed Abacha?
Well, it is true that I always saw him in the evening. One thing I made sure was that I never took official matters to him. I never went there to gossip. As I said, we had been long time friends. Some times I would wait up till 11pm or 12 mid-night so that he would have finished with all those people who would normally take their problems to him. I think that day I just came back from Gusau and I was feeling tired and I thought I would take the evening off. But once I came in, I got a telephone call from the Villa that they were waiting for me there. I think it was the day (late) Yasser Arafat came to Nigeria and Abacha was to receive him. In fact, by the time we finished Abacha himself was very tired because he slept all through the evening on our way back from the airport.
So I told people that the man was tired they should allow him rest. So I went back to meet him around 10pm or so and I left him around 2:30am. The next morning around 10:30 I think I had two administrators with me in the office when another call came. They said they were waiting for me at the Villa and I got a bit upset that why must they always wait for me at the Villa, every time they are waiting for me, they are waiting for me. When I got to the Villa, they said Abacha died. I said, died? But I was with him till very late.
The story people have refused to let go of is that you were both out very late, enjoying and drinking with some woman and that he ate apple and died of possible poisoning from the apple?
People said all that, about apple poisoning him, some women poisoned him and all that. There is an autopsy report on what killed him.
But the autopsy report could bee doctored to protect him?
Doctored how? They cut his body and sent to Germany. The report that came back said Abacha died of natural causes. They cut his body again and sent to the United Kingdom, the report that came back said he died of natural causes. The man had been ill any way.
They (the military council) by-passed you because they felt you had a hand in his death?
Yes! I was suspected, and they made Abdulsalami head of state, though militarily, I was the most senior officer at that time.

So my wonderful dad sent me a throwback pic of my super mum and I that we took on a Mother’s Day. I remember this day like it was yesterday. The love I have for my mum is more than anyone can possibly imagine. But trust me we can never love our mothers enough for all they have done for us. I pray God grants her more years to live with us. And I am also begging for God to expand the bandwidth of love I can possibly have so I can still pour it all on my sweet mother. HAPPY MOTHERS DAY. #Mavin

At least 20 Boko Haram detainees were Sunday shot dead in a shootout that ensued at the Department of State Security Service in the Asokoro a district of Abuja.
The shootout started when some of the suspected terrorists attempted to free their members and escape from the detention facility, which is close to the Presidential Villa.
Trouble had started around 6am during the normal handing over and taking over of duties by DSS detainees’ handlers, sources say.
A source told Vanguard that as soon as one of the handlers opened the gate leading to the cell where the detainees were being kept, ten suspected terrorists rushed out, snatched the handler’s rifle and used it to shoot him.
Seeing the attack, some DSS handlers were reported to have retreated so as not to be killed by the rampaging suspected terrorists.
The Vanguard source further said that after shooting the first handler, the ten suspected terrorists began to escape into different locations within the massive security compound.
The DSS responded swiftly by deploying its men to quell the uprising, resulting in heavy shooting that claimed the lives of some of the suspects.
Many DSS operatives and Boko Haram detainees were also injured in the ensuing stampede.
The DSS operative who was shot had since been taken to the hospital, and now lies in a critical state, according to reports.
Investigation into why the detainees handler decided to go and open the cell gate alone without being accompanied by others according to standard practice had begun as the DSS was said to have been embarrassed by the incident.
Spokeswoman for the DSS, Marylyn Ogar confirmed the attempted jailbreak.
“What happened was that the suspects’ handlers went to feed the detainees here but suddenly they attacked him with their handcuffs, disarmed him and started shooting.
“The military was quickly called in before they could do any harm and that is responsible for the shootings you heard.
“It was an attempted jailbreak but it has been brought under control,” she said.
Ayo Onikoyi had with singer Adokiye Kyrian. Ayo who actually thought Adokiye was joking when she said she was a virgin, got the shock of his life, when she barked at him after seeing his face expression that she was a virgin. Haven’t you seen a beautiful virgin before? Well if you haven’t here is one, she said. Lol.
What an interesting chat, Adokiye, if this is true thumbs up oh, many thumbs up, we are many in the game, Oh Oops I meant few years back. LOL. The chat below….
Seductively beautiful, fragile and provocative wave-making singer, Adokiye Kyrian, who became UN ambassador of Peace in less than five years of her climb onto the stage of music in Nigeria, is a hot item any day any time. She never ceases to amaze and seems never to run out of bag of tricks to mesmerise fans and haters alike.
The Love You Better and Kulumo crooner, who only turned 23 yesterday has been called many names, and most of those have sexuality hanging around them. So one could imagine my surprise and sheer incredulity when the singer opened up to me that she is actually a virgin.
We were chatting about love and she was trying to convince me she doesn’t believe in love. “ I really don’t like love”, she said “ I’m a career person, what I have for everyone including guys, is Agape love. Love is wicked and there is no real love, I’m young and living the life. Until I see one, I’m happy like this”
Then I felt she was beginning to sound like a woman who has had the love of her life run off with her best friend on her wedding day. I could not help but asked if she had been pained by love before. To which she retorted “Frankly, no”. But she told me she has seen enough of fake love around her to be cautious to whom she gives her heart .
“So, you aren’t in any relationship”, I queried. “ Yes, actually, I’m in a relationship with my career, architecture is my husband and music/movie my boyfriend”, she replied.
Curious as usual, I felt this rising star may just have no one pulling her chestnut out of the fire for her, so, I took a swing at her but got one back that got me real reeling.
“You mean you are not getting laid or what?”, I returned, to which she cut me short “ Haba, what is a young girl getting laid for. I’m still a virgin”. For a moment, I thought I hadn’t heard right and I guessed she thought so too. “Why are you quiet? Haven’t you seen a pretty virgin before? If you don’t believe me, you have seen one today. Any man that buys my mum the private jet I promised her, wins my heart” she said.
The society we live does not permit us to come out straight and say certain things, especially when it comes to sexual talks. But Crystal Okoye has gone pass that now, has she exploded in a new interview that, she has no business with a man who can’t PERFORM in bed. Stressing that, she likes sex and she is not ready to hide it and her man must be ready for her.
I am not one of those women who would tell you sex doesn’t matter; it matters a lot in a marriage. If a man cannot perform I have no business with him.
You have to be a complete man to be with me. I don’t pray to marry a poor man but a man who can comfortably take care of me. I love sex, and I am not going to pretend I don’t. I know most girls even fake orgasm just to please their partners but I am not that kind of girl, she said.
Boko Haram militants detained at the State Security Services facility in Abuja took over the complex for over six hours after disarming SSS agents guarding the facility, according to a report by Saharareporters.
The audacious action of the detainees led to prolonged negotiations that later resulted to shootings at the complex for over 4 hours, Saharareporters said, quoting SSS sources.
The gunfight at the complex known as “Yellow House” caused panic in Abuja as the complex sits close to the Presidential Villa and one of the most fortified areas in the national capital.
While some reports say the attack came from within, after detained members of the Islamist sect disarmed agents guarding the detention facility, others say the attackers stormed the SSS complex on Sunday morning to free their comrades being detained by the security agency.
Soldiers and their Air Force counterparts were drafted in some few hours later to bring the insurrection under control.
Following the attack, various points in Abuja city as well as some roads leading to the nation’s capital are under lock down, with military helicopters deployed around the city.
“What happened was that the suspects handlers went to feed the detainees here but suddenly they attacked him with their handcuffs, disarmed him and started shooting,” a spokesperson for the SSS said.
“The military was quickly called in before they could do any harm and that is responsible for the shootings you heard.
“It was an attempted jailbreak but it has been brought under control,” the spokesperson said.
Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode however had a different story, as he claimed what went down was a full-scale battle.
Fani-Kayode, who took to Twitter to air his own version after the attack said, “I live 50 metres away from the SSS headquaters and the Villa and what I witnssed with my eyes and heard this morning was a full scale battle”.
Deaths or injuries as a result of the incident cannot be immediately confirmed.

The New York Police Department last night March 28th shut down Davido's concert which held at Pulse 48 in Brooklyn because the concert was overbooked, leading to safety concerns. People going to the concert caused shut down of two blocks in Brooklyn, forcing the police to intervene.
The show yesterday was supposed to be Davido's first show as he kicks off US/Canada Tour 2014. He has a show in D.C today and Minnesota tomorrow. Then Dallas, Texas on Friday the 4th of April, then makes a final stop in Toronto, Canada on the 5th of April.
Reverend Njohi, a Reverend at Lord’s Propeller Redemption Church in Kenya, ordered the female members of his congregation to attend church without any form of underwear so that Christ can enter their lives.
He reportedly banned the wearing of undergarments in his church because they are ungodly, and “people need to be free in body and spirit to receive Christ.“
According to The Kenyan Post, Njohi allegedly warned members that there would be terrible consequences if they attempted to secretly wear bra or pant. Mothers were also advised to make sure their daughters comply with the order.
At the funeral service of Olufemi Enitan Segun, which took place at the House on the Rock Cathedral, Lekki, Lagos, on Friday, March 28, 2014, there was a mild drama between Pastor Paul Adefarasin and King of Afrobeat, Femi Kuti.
While giving a sermon, Pastor Adefarasin indicated that the deceased was in paradise as he gave his life to Christ and became born again before his demise.
He therefore urged all present to give their lives to Christ and as he was saying this, the camera focused on Femi Kuti who doesn’t believe in Christianity.
Femi Kuti later engaged some people in discussion about the sermon, saying that it was even those who claim to be religious that ordered the death of Jesus and that they preferred for Him to die, than to exchange him for Barnabas.
He was later approached by Pastor Adefarasin, and both talked at length and at the end, they both maintained their positions while parting ways amicably.
Abeokuta, capital of Ogun state in western Nigeria has witnessed yet another horror: the beheading of a 65- year old retired magistrate, Mrs Olufunmilayo Timeyin by her domestic aide, simply identified as David.
The tragedy happened at the Laderin Housing Estate, Kobape Road, barely 48 hours after an insane police corporal killed seven people and subsequently committed suicide in the same Abeokuta.
A witness told journalists at the scene of the incident that it happened at about 4:00. p.m. in the deceased’s house.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, Timeyin, who retired as a senior magistrate in the Ogun state judiciary, employed the domestic aide about two months ago.
David who hails from Benue, was said to have been sacked and arrested by the police after he allegedly stole jewellery, mobile phones and some electronic gadgets, from his boss.
He however, returned to the house Friday afternoon shortly after regaining freedom from police custody and jumped the fence.
He was alleged to have deactivated the security alarm system in the house and lurked in one corner, while an unsuspecting Timeyin returned from an outing.
The witness said Timeyin packed her blue Toyota Camry car– marked Lagos KIA 141 BU– outside the house, apparently planning to go out again.
The source said that the domestic aide attacked Timeyin with a machete immediately she opened her gate.
Timeyin’s son, identified as Olumide, who arrived the house with his mother, raised an alarm that a thief was inside his mother’s house.
But, by the time neighbours came round, the retired magistrate had been beheaded and his assailant and househelp had escaped into the bush.
The suspect was, however, arrested by residents of the area and handed over to the police.
The Chief Judge of Ogun state, Justice Olatokunbo Olopade, and the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftain Affairs, Chief Muyiwa Oladipo, were part of important dignitaries who had visited the home of the deceased as at 8:00 p.m. on Friday.
Though the state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, could not be reached for comments, policemen from Kemta division of Abeokuta were at the scene as the body was being moved to the morgue at about 8:00 p.m.
An Ogun neighbourhood was been left in shock when a police officer shot dead 7 people and then himself.
The incident occurred at the Ifelodun street environs of
Akingbala in the Eleweeran area of Abeokuta, the state capital. The officer, identified as Sunkanmi Ogunbiyi, killed his wife, a motorcyclist and 5 members of the same family, one of whom was 2 years old.
It appears the residents of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, have not seen the end of bizarre incidents yet, as barely one week after the city caught global attention following the discovery of the infamous ‘House of Horror’, a Muslim cleric was caught on Thursday [Mar. 27] night while slaughtering a girl who had gone to him for spiritual help. The suspect, Isah Salaudeen, 37, is currently being held at the Iyaganku Division of Oyo State Police Command for attempted murder of one Chiwendu Nkwocha (also known as Divine).
Salaudeen had started using knife to slit the throat of the girl after which he then used a cutlass to hack her. This made the lady to scream, jumped up from where she was lying and ran out for help. The incident was said to have been reported by one Aafa Taiye Agulofi and Ademola Agoro, residents of Ori Eru, along Agbaje road, Agbeni area of Ibadan, where the suspect also resided. According to Nigerian Tribune, Nkwocha, who resides at 11, Ogundimu Street, Iju-Ishaga, Lagos State, was brought to Salaudeen by her boyfriend, Bola, in January this year so that he would help in using prayers and other means to exorcise some spirits troubling her.
Since then, Nkwocha had been undergoing ‘spiritual cleansing’ by being given herbs, concoctions and ‘holy water’ to cure her. On the fateful day, Salaudeen reportedly asked Nkwocha to lie down while he covered her face with a cloth. Suddenly, the lady felt a sharp pain on her throat. Before she could fathom what was happening, the cleric reportedly attempted to hack her with a cutlass to make his work faster when it seemed the knife was not achieving the aim intended. Residents of the area who were shocked at the occurrence were said to have suspected that he might have wanted to use the lady for ritual purposes.
Nkwocha is said to be receiving treatment at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan. But Salaudeen denied trying to deliberately kill the lady, saying he did not know what came over him. He said he believed he was manipulated by the spirits troubling Nkwocha to commit the criminal act. In an interview with Nigeriany Tribune, Salaudeen, an indigene of Ibadan and a divorcee with two children, said: I knew Bola and the lady in January. It was one Nike from Lagos State who brought Bola to me and I knew Nike through one Baba Ibeji, a taxi driver who was my client. Bola was Nike’s boyfriend but Bola later came to me and said he was no longer going out with Nike. I know Bola and Nkwocha use laptop to get money from people and I used to pray for them so that their venture would yield fruits. About one month after, the lady came back to me for help, saying that Bola called her a prostitute and said that he could not marry her because she was not a ‘wife material’.
She said I should help her with prayers so that she would meet rich men who would give her money. She used to come and go as she liked. She would stay with me and go out at will to go out with men. Because she used to play with me, I became aroused and had slept with her about two times. On Thursday morning, after my children left for school, I laid on a couch while she was on the floor. Suddenly, I looked at a cutlass in my room behind a cupboard. I didn’t know what happened; I just knew I took the cutlass and used it to cut her throat. She ran outside and I was wondering what happened when people came in to apprehend me. I am a Muslim cleric and will never do rituals. Even I have self-discipline so much that I don’t have girlfriend or go to prostitutes since my wife and I divorced. If I feel like having sex, I just masturbate until I (ejaculate).
Divine (Nkwocha) used to play hard and was also staying with me; that was why I had sex with her. I only used cutlass on her throat. I don’t know how blood got to the knife. I also don’t know how the injury on her hand and cheek came about. I pray that she survives so that she could defend me. It must have been her members in the spiritual world who lifted my hands to (slit) her throat. She told me that they had been troubling her, saying she had dreadlocks which were cut. She further told me that it was the cutting of the dreadlocks that had been giving her spiritual problems.
The spokesperson for the Oyo State police command, Olabisi Okuwobi-Ilobanafor, confirmed the incident, saying that the suspect would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Iyaganku, Ibadan, for further investigations.
The Presidency has said that it will not probe the allegations of misappropriation of public funds levelled against the Minister of Petroleum, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe said on Friday, that the Federal Government would not set up a probe panel to investigate the minister because the House of Representatives was currently probing her.
Alison-Madueke was alleged to have spent N10bn on a chartered Challenger 850 aircraft in two years for which the House of Representatives is currently probing her.
Okupe said that the Federal Government could not institute a probe panel on matters that had not been substantiated.
Okupe in a telephone interview with Punch in Abuja, on Friday, said since the House of Representatives had started investigating the matter, the right thing to do was to wait for the outcome of such a probe before any further step could be taken.
He said, “The Federal Government cannot set up a probe panel just on things that have not been substantiated as such. The information I have is that the House of Representatives is looking into the matter and they want to invite the honourable minister. Definitely, the right thing is to wait for the outcome of such an interaction before anybody can decide to do anything.”
Though the House of Representatives had assured Nigerians that it would investigate the allegations against the petroleum minister, it is yet to start the probe one week after it gave the promise. The House Committee on Public Accounts was given three weeks to conduct the investigation and produce a report.
But as at Thursday, there was no formal action on the probe and no invitation had been sent out to any government official to appear before the committee.
