A 14- year-old house maid, Otobong Edet John, had her buttocks seared with hot electric iron by her mistress, simply identified as Ekaette, on the suspicion that she was promiscuous.
Narrating her ordeal, Otobong said she was receiving a call on her phone when the madam operating a canteen asked her who was on the phone and she said it was one of her friends. “But madam did not believe me and started beating me. So I ran and stayed somewhere with my friend”,she stated.
According to her, she remained in that place until about 10p.m. when she went to sleep in a church close to their shop and the next morning “when I was about coming to the shop, a neighbour saw me discussing with a customer who was asking me where I was coming from so early in the morning and went to tell my aunty that I spent the night with the man”.
The madam, she said, went to the police station at nearby Atimbo Road, Calabar and reported to them that the man abducted her housemaid.
But after the police interrogated the man, they let him go and this infuriated Ekaette following which she allegedly dragged Otobong to the shop, plugged the electric iron and when it was red hot, she used the scorched parts to sear the maid’s body including her buttocks and right arm. Not done yet, she allegedly put a basin of banana on the girl’s head, asking her to go to town and sell even as her arm and buttocks were bleeding.
“It was a customer who wanted to buy banana that saw that my arm was bleeding and asked me what happened and, when I showed him my buttocks, he shouted and took me to the police”, she said.
The mistress, while being interrogated by the police at Akim Police Division for causing bodily harm to a minor, justified her action by saying that Otobong was a rude and wayward girl. “When she told me it was Mary that called her, I called back that number and it was a male voice that answered and she then changed the story that she did not know what the man wanted after she had discussed with the man for over two minutes”,Ekaette said.
She said there were instances when the girl had gone from home to stay with men even as she had repeatedly cautioned her to change her ways. “That girl you are seeing is a very wayward girl and, if I tell you her story, you would marvel”, she said.
The Public Relations Officer for the Cross River State Police Command, DSP John Umoh, said the action of Ekaette was unacceptable as it amounted to child abuse and “after investigations she would be taken to court”.

According to court documents, former teacher Kahtanna Culp is charged with having an improper relationship with a student. Culp went to the principal of Northbrook High School in Houston, Texas to confess about her relationship late last year. She made it clear to the principal that she wanted to end the affair. However, when she told the student, he didn’t react well and threatened to expose her if she didn’t pay him. The principal took the proper action and called the authorities. Culp was then fired on the spot.
When police began investigating the case they spoke to the student. He said he and his former teacher had sex multiple times. He even went as far as to say he lived with Culp on and off for seven months. The student also said Culp allowed his friends to come over to her house where she provided them with large amounts of weed to smoke. When investigators first went to speak with Kahtanna Culp, she refused to answer any questions without her lawyer present.
The SBISD Superintendent of Schools Duncan Klussmann said,”This kind of outrageous, illegal conduct will never be tolerated in this school district. We will always aggressively investigate any allegation of impropriety by any teacher or any other employee, and we will take the strongest possible action against such employees when these allegations are proven true. Our first priority every day is the safety of every student. We will continue to work closely with law enforcement authorities and urge that if these allegations are true, this former employee be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
Why is it so hard for teachers to find people their own age to sleep with? Aren’t there other teachers to sleep with?
As the story goes, the prostitute was in the middle of a wild session with a customer when she collapsed at the Manor Hotel in the city of Bulaweyo. The client was horrified and convinced the call girl was dead so he called the police. Law enforcement sent the paramedics to the scene and that’s where things get interesting. as the paramedics loaded the coffin holding the “dead” prostitute on to their trucxk, the prostitute woke up and jumped out of the coffin.
According to local news outlets, the hooker jumped out of the coffin screaming, “You want to kill me! You want to kill me!” The whole ordeal scared the mess out of people who gathered to watch the scene play out. A source told Bulaweyo24 News, “It was like a movie. People were running away in different directions. It was a scary incident because we were all convinced that she had died because she was just cold. Miracles surely do happen.”
The hooker known as MaNdio was escorted home by another prostitute. Wait, prostitution is legal in Zimbabwe? There was never a mention about either party having to deal with any legal repercussions.

The Deputy Governor of Imo State Jude Agbaso has been impeached from office after a prolonged battle over the allegation that he demanded for and collected bribes.
Twenty five out of twenty six members of the Imo State House of Assembly voted in favour of the impeachment, Channels TV reports.
His impeachment comes just hours after the High Court dismissed the suit he filed, asking it to stop his impeachment by the state Assembly. He also asked the court to restrain the Nigerian Police from harassing him or acting upon the recommendations of the House of Assembly against him. His case was however thrown out of court earlier today for “lack of merit”
Agbaso allegedly demanded and collected the sum of N417 Million from a construction firm handling the reconstruction of Sam Mbakwe Road, Owerri. He however denied the allegation.
Following his impeachment, the Chief of Staff to the Governor of Imo State, Eze Madumere, has been cleared by the state House of Assembly to replace him as Deputy Governor.

BLACK out looms in most part of the country as three out of the six turbines of 220 mega watts (MW) each in Egbin Hydro power plants collapsed on Thursday.
When the Nigerian Tribune visited the premises of Egbin power plant in Ijede, a suburb of Lagos State, on Thursday, it was learnt that two units of the largest hydro power plant in Lagos had collapsed.
Egbin power plant has capacity to generate 1320MW when operating at full capacity, but now it is generating below installed capacity at about 660MW.
The Chief Executive Officer of Egbin Hydro power plant, Mr Mike Uzoigwe, told Nigerian Tribune on telephone that he could not entertain calls because of an emergency at hand.
According to him, “there is an emergency that requires urgent attention. I am sorry I cannot attend to you now, but you can call me later.”
But a staff of the power plant who declined to give her name confirmed the incidents. According to her, “before now, we have five units working optimally, the sixth unit is undergoing some rehabilitation. Due to significant drop in water level at the dams, two units collapsed this morning, leaving only three working.”
However, when the Nigerian Tribune inquired from a source at the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) who preferred anonymity, he blamed the drop in power supply on drop in water level at the dams, system collapse, inadequate capacity and lack of needed infrastructure.
He explained that the problem is multifaceted.
According to him, “if you are familiar with the trend, you would have observed that during this period of each year, we usually experience this drop in power supply because of drop in water level.
“Unlike before when we had rainfall at its peak, you will experience greater output. So, power generation has dropped below 4000MW as we speak.
“There is breakdown of some TCN infrastructure as well which affects supply to distribution companies (Discos). The customers have direct interface with the Discos, but when they do not have enough supply from TCN to distribute to customers, then, there is a problem.
“We are not happy at the situation because it is affecting our image and we are suffering loss of revenue as well. But the engineers are working hard to resolve the problem at the TCN end. We are very sorry for this because we cannot give what we do not have,” he said.

CASES of rape have gone up from 12.5 per cent to 84 per cent in Nigeria.
Revealing this on Thursday, in Ibadan, Dr (Mrs) Omolara Smith, President, Zonta Club II, Ibadan, said violence against women had become more rampant and called on the government to enact appropriate laws to serve as deterrence to culprits.
Smith, who was addressing journalists on activities organised by Zonta Club to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Gender-Based Violence, said, “violence against women and children in Nigeria has challenged us to act in solidarity to promote and end violence against women and girls. Over the years, cases of rape and other violence against women have been on the increase. It is our view that this can only be reduced or eradicated with proper legislation and stiff penalty.”
Smith, who disclosed that the global theme of the international day was “From peace in the home to peace in the world,” added that violence against women was something that should be abhorred by everyone in the society.
According to the Zonta boss, “Violence can lead to extreme physical, mental and psychological condition or even death, it can take place domestically, in the public or as part of community conflicts.”
While advising women and girls to be wary of the company they kept, Dr Smith said, “Women are more likely to be victimised by someone they are intimate with.”
The Zonta president revealed that the activities earmarked by the organisation to sensitise members of the public against victimising women and girls would span 16 days.

Nigerian Henry Okah has being jailed for 24 years by the South Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg earlier today (Tuesday).
"Effectively, the accused [Okah] is therefore sentenced to 24 years imprisonment," Judge Neels Claassen said as he handed down sentence.
On 21 January, Okah was found guilty on 13 counts of terrorism, including engaging in terrorist activities, conspiracy to engage in terrorist activities, and delivering, placing, and detonating an explosive device.
The charges related to two car bombs in Abuja, Nigeria, in which 12 people were killed and 36 injured on 1 October 2010, the anniversary of the country's independence.
The second bombing took place in Warri on 15 March 2010 at a post amnesty dialogue meeting. One person was killed and 11 seriously injured.
In both bombings, two car bombs went off minutes apart in both places. The cars were parked in close proximity to each other.
Claassen sentenced Okah to 12 years imprisonment for each of the bombings and 13 years for the threats made to the South African government after his arrest in October 2010.
The 13 years would run concurrently with the 24 years.
In January, during judgment Claassen said the State had proved Okah's guilt beyond a reasonable doubt, and his failure to testify meant the evidence against him remained uncontested.
Okah has denied any involvement, claiming the charges against him were politically motivated.
