I Will Not Act Romantically In Movies Again Because Of My Husband- Dakore Akande

I have to consider my husband before taking any role these days. I will not do romantic roles as I used to back in the days. Though, if I see a role that is good and positive, maybe I could act. I am now a new Dakore and not the old Dakore people used to know because I am coming into a new era in my career.
I am now a mother and a wife. I just have to be more discerning about the movies that I embark upon.”

Igbo People Are Killing Nollywood With Tribalism – Actress, Halima Abubakar

halima_abubakar1
One actress who really struggled for several years in Nollywood before she eventually got her big break is Halima Abubakar. She saw the challenges, faced them and eventually conquered.
But she said it no longer easy for up and coming actresses who are gifted but are not being allowed to prove themselves in the industry due to the high level tribalism of the Igbos who control the industry and are now making themselves lord over others. See her complains below…
“I have experienced tribalism, I know people would say it is a lie, but that is the truth. Why have those from a particular group not reached out to people who are not specifically from their areas?
“I have worked with a lot of Igbos, my marketer is Igbo, I have worked with a lot of them and I know those I have not worked with, I have not seen the right roles for me yet, but I believe they will come.
“But how about others, who are independently shooting movies, does that mean those are the only set of actors in Nollywood? I am not saying they should give me roles, but there are people who want to see fresh faces. We need to give others opportunity to showcase their talents.
“I am saying, stop tribalism and bring everyone under the umbrella of AGN,” Halima insisted.

Customs-Officer Arrested For Ferrying Arms For Boko-Haram

A high ranking customs officer allegedly aided the importations of weapons for Boko Haram.
Soldiers have arrested a serving senior official of the Nigeria Customs Service in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital for allegedly assisting Boko Haram insurgents to import arms into the country, both security and non-military sources revealed to Otohmillar
The officer, who is a native of one of the states in the volatile Northeast Nigeria, found himself in trouble when soldiers intercepted a vehicle cleared to enter the country through a border post under his command.
Some military sources who confirmed the incident to reporters in Maiduguri said the Customs officer was exposed when the driver of the truck carrying the illegal arms mentioned his name ‘as the Oga that allowed him to enter the country with the arms’.
The sources said the customs officer was also linked with several arms importation, an act that probably made him very rich, to buy his numerous landed property and posh cars.
The news of the incident, which had been downplayed by the security agencies in Maiduguri, however, became the talk of the town after it broke open this week.
A Borno civil servant told Journalists at the Government House, Maiduguri, that government officials know about the arrest of the officer.
“It is no longer a hidden news that he was arrested in connection with helping Boko Haram to bring in arms. A security source also told me that the senior officer manned the border post each time the truck conveying arms was about coming into Maiduguri. He would simply tell his boys to let it pass that it has been cleared from above,” said the civil servant who did not want his name published for security reasons.
Sources also said several military uniforms and guns were also recovered from the Maiduguri home of the arrested customs officer after a team of soldiers visited the building last week.
Journalists could not get across to the spokesmen of the various security outfits in Maiduguri, including the JTF spokesman, Sagir Musa, due to the grounding of telecommunication network which has lasted for almost two weeks since the emergency rule declaration.

The Tree That Killed People In Imo State (picture)

Uko, as fondly called was a tree located at Umudagu Mbieri in Mbaitolu LG of Imo state. Due to the shade the tree provided,an evening market was established called Ukwu Uko market. Nobody knew what the Uko tree was 'nursing' when the market became expanded and recognised as one-stop market one could buy fresh vegitables and foodstuffs. I used to go there to buy things when i was an undergraduate of Imo state University living at Sarah Hostel.'Because i'm involved' (in the words of Dim Odemegwu Ojukwu) i had a first hand feel of what the tree and the market look ed like,i write authoritatively that the tree was hail and hearty, with fresh leaves on it as seen in the picture. This is why people tend to wonder over the sudden collapse of Uko tree and even during the evening market when the market was filled wit buyers and sellers. So many were sent to their untimely graves including a pregnant woman by this tree. It was horrifying.

Man Kills Wife Over N500 In Lagos

A man identified as Gbadebo Elegbede, in Abule Egba area of Lagos State, on Monday  morning,  allegedly  beat his wife to death over a disagreement that started from a missing N500 note.
The incident, which reportedly occurred  at Oronna Street, Off Puposola Street, Abule Egba area of the state, started when 60-year-old Elegbede raised the alarm over his missing N500 he claimed to have kept in their room.
He accused one of his wife's sons of being responsible for the missing money but when the deceased defended her son, it led to a serious argument between the duo and subsequently to a fierce scuffle.
It was gathered that the man allegedly hit the woman with an unnamed object, which made her fall to the ground with blood gushing out of her mouth, and the 17-year-old son, Johnson, who the father accused of stealing the N500 came in and met the lifeless body of his mother.

Lagos Lawmakers Fault Tolling Of Lekki-ikoyi Link-bridge

•Concessionaire plans N100 to N400 toll rates, bans commercial vehicles
PROPOSAL by the Lagos State government to charge toll rates ranging from N100 to N400 on the Lekki-Ikoyi link bridge was Tuesday faulted by lawmakers in the state.
Except for their Speaker, Adeyemi Ikuforiji, about 20 lawmakers present at the plenary, raised questions on why the state government should concession and collect tolling on a bridge built with taxpayers’ money and fully paid by the government.
Besides, the lawmakers expressed dissatisfaction on why the state government chooses to present a voluminous document on terms and conditions of concession agreement and tolling to the lawmakers for approval, some days before the commissioning of the infrastructure in question. The bridge will be officially commissioned Wednesday.
In a letter read on the floor of the Assembly on Monday, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ade Ipaye had on behalf of the state government written a letter, seeking the “Ratification of the electronic tolling system operation, maintenance, concession terms and conditions for the Lekki-Ikoyi toll bridge.”
The letter also sought the approval of the lawmakers on initial maximum tolls set out in the agreement. The toll rates are N250 for saloon cars; N300 for mini vans, Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) and light pick-up trucks; N400 for non-commercial buses with a maximum sitting capacity of 26 persons; N100 for motorcycles with 200 engine capacity and above.
Presenting the proposal as a motion Tuesday, Majority Leader, Dr Ajibayo Adeyeye noted that the bridge was built by the state government and has been concessioned to Lagos Tolling Company, working with two technical partners.
By the agreement, 73 per cent of revenue generated goes to the state government, while 27 per cent goes to the tolling company. Also, 80 per cent of all incidental activities like adverts go to the state government, while 20 per cent goes to the operating company. The concession agreement is for 10 years, and has five years renewable period.
Speaking on the motion, member of the House, Saka Fafunmi noted that construction of the bridge was a laudable initiative, but “must we always pay toll on every projects made by government?”
“On this one-kilometre bridge, I’m not convinced at all, after all, we did not borrow money to have this done,” he said.
Apparently in agreement with Fafunmi, Deputy Speaker of the House, Taiwo Kolawole noted that the request of the government, as claimed in the proposal, was not in line with the 2011 Public-Private Partnership law.
He said: “As far I’m concerned, this has nothing to do with PPP law. This is not about provision of infrastructure because the bridge has already been constructed using the taxpayer’s money. So, why should we still toll a road that we have built with our money?
Rotimi Olowo, representing Shomolu I Constituency suggested that the House should invite the Special Adviser on PPP and Commissioner for Works to explain details of the concessioning, coupled with prohibition of some vehicles from plying the bridge.
Prohibited from the route are commercial motorcycles popularly known as okada, tricycles, commercial vehicles including Danfo and high capacity buses, heavy-duty trucks, articulated trucks and lorries, among others.
Reacting to dissatisfactions raised by members, Speaker, Adeyemi Ikuforiji said the House should be blamed for not raising these concerns earlier, when the state government was proposing the construction of the bridge.
The lawmakers would not accept the blame, because, according to them, the government did not avail them the opportunity to ratify details of the project.

FG to begin construction of 700mw Zungeru Hydro Plant

Hydro
Work is expected to commence fully on construction of the 700 megawatts (MW) Zungeru Hydroelectric Power Plant, which President Goodluck Jonathan would perform turning of the sod tomorrow.
The plant which is expected to be completed in 2018, is being constructed by a Chinese consortium, CNEEC-Sinohydro Consortium, with total funding of the project being provided by the Federal Government and Exim Bank of China in the ratio of 25:75.
The project, initiated as far back as 1982 when its feasibility studies were initially conducted and submitted to the government by a United States firm, Chas T. Main International and later reviewed in 2008 by a French firm, Coyne et Bellier, will cost about N162,990,364,379.30 to complete, to add to the country’s total generated electricity.
Chief representative of the consortium in Nigeria, Ju Shiquan, who spoke to reporters over the weekend in Abuja, said the smooth take-off of work at the hydro plant had been concluded, hence, the official turning of the sod by the President tomorrow.
Terms in the contract stipulates that Nigeria will provide its counterpart funding contribution put at about $309 million.
According to the Minister of State for Power, Hajia Zainab Kuchi at the contract signing ceremony for the project early this year, the money is already domiciled within the ministry of power.
Kuchi had noted that the Ministry of Finance was expected to finalise all legal paper works to activate the 75 percent funding from the Exim Bank of China.
The project, when completed, is also expected to generate revenue to offset the facility from Exim Bank of China.
