GTBANK Driver steals N17 million at Adeyemo Alakija branch



A 45-year-old van driver with Guaranty Trust Bank,(GTB), Olusegun Fatokun, was on Wednesday charged before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court over alleged theft of N17.3 million. Fatokun, who resides at No. 4, Wemimo St., Bariga, Lagos, appeared on one-count charge of stealing.
The Prosecutor,Sunday Ibrahim said that the accused stole 100, 000 US dollar and 10, 000 Euro, which is equivalent to N17.3 million, property of the bank.
Ibrahim said that the accused left the money behind in the van he went to offload, adding that he later took the money and hid it in a friend’s house. He said that the offence was committed on March 8 at 6.30 p.m at GT Bank, Adeyemo Alakija Branch, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 285, Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2011.
However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The chief magistrate, Mrs A. Demi-Ajayi granted the accused bail in the sum of N500, 000, with two sureties in like sum.
