Jermaine Jackson Seeking Name Change for "Artistic Reasons"

Legendary Jackson 5 member Jermaine Jackson recently announced that he is petitioning to have his last name changed from "Jackson" to "Jacksun", according to the Associated Press.

A hearing is set for February 22 in Los Angeles to determine whether or not the 57-year-old artist is allowed to change his surname.

A friend of Mr. Jackson's, Steve Dennis told the publication, “Phonetically, it changes nothing. It is something he has chosen to do, and it’s fair to say that you cannot blame this one on the boogie, you’ve got to blame it on the sunshine," referencing the Jackson 5's hit song, "Blame it on the Boogie".

Assuming Jermaine's request is approved, he would have to publicize the name change in local publications over the following few months, similar to what Ron Artest (Metta World Peace) did.

For now, Mr. Jackson is on tour with his brothers and is promoting a book about his late brother, Michael, titled "You Are Not Alone".
