UBA denies funding failed Turkey coup
A Turkey-based newspaper, Yenisafak, had reported that some of those arrested in connection with the July 15, 2016 failed coup plot had told their interrogators that UBA Plc and a United States of America Army General, John F. Campbell, arranged for the funding of the coup plot.
The newspaper alleged that the funds, in the region of $2 billion, was moved from the United States of America into UBA Plc from where it was funnelled to the coup plotters.
But UBA Plc, in a statement by its Head of Communications, Charles Aigbe, denied involvement in the failed coup plot.
Aigbe said in the terse statement on Tuesday:
“UBA is aware of the on-going and spurious media speculation linking our institution to recent events in Turkey. In light of this we believe it is necessary to categorically state that UBA has no involvement in or connection to these accusations, which are clearly false.
“We remain focused and firmly committed to delivering on our strategy to build Africa’s premier banking institution.”

Melania Trump copies Michelle Obama's 2008 speech at the RNC
Melania Trump is under fire for plagiarizing Michelle Obama's speech .On Monday night at the Republican National Convention Melanie plagiarized Michelle Obama's speech to the Democratic National Convention in 2008.
Side-by-side comparisons of the transcripts show the text in Trump's address following, nearly to the word, the first lady's own from the first night of the Democratic convention in Denver nearly eight years ago.
The controversy quickly overshadowed the speech, which was to have been her introduction to voters. It focused on her immigration to the US and her love for her husband.
Melania Trump, Republican National Convention 2016:
"From a young age, my parents impressed on me the values that you work hard for what you want in life; that your word is your bond and you do what you say and keep your promise; that you treat people with respect. They taught and showed me values and morals in their daily life.
That is a lesson that I continue to pass along to our son, and we need to pass those lessons on to the many generations to follow.
Because we want our children in this nation to know that the only limit to your achievements is the strength of your dreams and willingness to work for them."
Michelle Obama, Democratic National Convention 2008:
"And Barack and I were raised with so many of the same values: that you work hard for what you want in life; that your word is your bond and you do what you say you're going to do; that you treat people with dignity and respect, even if you don't know them, and even if you don't agree with them.
And Barack and I set out to build lives guided by these values, and pass them on to the next generation. Because we want our children—and all children in this nation—to know that the only limit to the height of your achievements is the reach of your dreams and your willingness to work for them."

Arase took away 24 Police vehicles and left me with an old one-Acting IG
Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ibrahim Idris has accused his predecessor ,Solomon Arase of carting away 24 vehicles including top of the range armoured BMW cars, on departure from office.
He accused the former IG of
Idris has written to Arase to return at least 20 vehicles, saying he should not have more than four cars as part of his severance package.
Speaking to journalists at the Force Headquarters in Abuja yesterday, Idris said:
“A week before I was announced (appointed), if you looked through my office window, you could see so many cars. But the cars all disappeared when I came in. What I did was to assign a directive to the Special Investigative Unit (SFU) to investigate all vehicles’
purchases and donations to the police in the last three years as well as their positions.
“When I took over, there were no vehicles. I discovered that the last IG went away with 24 vehicles including two BMWs. The DIGs some took seven, others eight. And they left me with an old vehicle. Even the one I followed the President with – the last time I went for an engagement – the President asked what I was doing with that kind of vehicle. The headlight has changed colour, which means it was parked for long under the rain.
“But the new ones that were bought, including an Armoured BMW 7 series, he took them away. So, I wrote to him and reminded him that when a policeman retires as IG, DIG, AIG or CP, he is entitled to some vehicles. And so, he should take his entitlement and return the extra. I believe four vehicles are enough for an average person. What does one need 24 vehicles for?”

Bola Tinubu Is No God, Melaye Speaks Again
The All Progressives Congress member representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Senator Dino Melaye, on Thursday explained that he insulted Senator Oluremi Tinubu, during an executive session at the Senate after she referred to him as a thug.
Melaye, however, said he was willing to apologise if he had wronged any individual in the matter.
“If there are instances that I am not a super human being, if there are instances where as a human being I have reacted negatively I am also ready to be apologetic about it. But in this particular instance, I have never mentioned anybody’s name, I never even used insolent languages.
Reacting to the statement purportedly made by Remi Tinubu’s husband and leader of the All Progressives Congress, Chief Bola Tinubu on his political career, Melaye said the APC leader is no god and cannot determine his political career.
“I will continue to speak for those who cannot speak for themselves, I will continue to be a voice to the voiceless and in reaction I heard that Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu said my political career has come to an end.
“I want to say that Tinubu is no god. I fear only the God almighty, I fear no soul I only respect souls. So far my political journey to the House of Representatives and the Senate has no political, financial or moral contribution of Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“The God who has brought me this far is mighty, strong and enough to take me further, what God has given me no man can give and what God has given to me no man can take. I want to assure you that this is the true story of what transpired.”
Court Dismisses Omisore’s Bail Application
An FCT High Court on Friday dismissed, Senator Iyiola Omisore‘s bail application, describing it as premature and incompetent.
Omisore was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on July 3rd over an alleged N1.3bn fraud.
In his ruling, the judge, Justice Olukayode Adeniyi held that the counsel to the applicant failed to show what powers the court had to reverse the order of a court with concurrent jurisdiction.
“I am not aware of any order to make in the instant applications, which have the tendency and implications of upturning the existing order of my learned brother Justice Jude Okeke.
I must therefore agree with the submissions of the respondent’s counsel that in the present situation this court hasn’t made an order for the remand of the applicant for the period of 14 days.
And now turn around to make another order undermining the same order for remand for the release of the applicant on bail.

“He (Osinbajo) wholly supports the idea of having State Police across the country as articulated in the APC’s Roadmap to a New Nigeria… Different groups are taking different approaches and at times this confuses the debate and reduces it to mere political rhetoric.
