House of Representatives Clerk Displays 2016 Budget at Plenary to Dispel 'Missing' Reports
Nigeria's House of Representatives has waded into the widely circulated reports that the nation's 2016 budget has been stolen from the National Assembly.
Following rumours that the 2016 Budget proposal has been missing from the National Assembly, the Clerk of the House of Representatives, Mr. Mohammed Sani-Omolori on Wednesday morning displayed the documents during plenary.
According to ThisDay, the Speaker, Hon. Yakubu Dogara also announced that copies of the proposal are ready for pick-up by lawmakers from Wednesday, at the secretariat of the Committee on Appropriation.
Making the announcement on behalf of the Chairman of the committee, Hon. Jibrin. Abdulmumim, the Speaker added that the documents would only be given to legislative aides on presentation of identification cards. Dogara lamented that the rumours on the budget had taken different forms with some alleging that the office of the Clerk of the National Assembly was broken into.
"None of their offices was broken into, but on social media, it is there that the budget has been stolen, and some newspapers also published that. It is necessary to clarify before going to press with such stories," he said.
