The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has withdrawn the statement it released earlier congratulating Alhaji Sanusi Ado Bayero, one the sons of late Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Abdullahi Bayero as the new Emir, Vanguard reports.
A twitter account purportedly belonging to former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Sanusi Lamido Sanusi had earlier announced the late emir’s son as the new Emir of Kano, saying it would be announced officially later. A twitter handle quoted in the announcement said to belong to Sanusi Ado Bayero had retweeted the announcement. African Independence Television (AIT) was said to have also broadcast a news flash announcing Sanusi Ado Bayero as new emir.
According to the new statement from the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, the earlier statement was unauthorized.
“Our attention has been drawn to a unauthorized statement issued on behalf of the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP by his Special Assistant, Mr. Richard Ihediwa, congratulating the eldest son of the late Emir of Kano, Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Ado Bayero as the new Emir of Kano.
“Mr. Ihediwa relied on a false news flash on the AIT and issued a statement in that direction without approval from the National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh.
“This is completely embarrassing to the National Publicity Secretary and the entire leadership of the PDP.
“We hereby dissociate with the statement earlier issued and regret the embarrassment this may have caused the entire nation, the Kano Emirate and the good people of Kano state,” the new statement said.
