Man Kills Childhood Friend Over N40,000, Hides Corpse in Pit

A grain dealer Hamisu Mijinyawa of Tofa town in Tofa local government area of Kano state has allegedly strangled his childhood friend Muzammil Hamisu to death over a N40,000 dispute.

The corpse of Hamisu who was popularly known as Dan Asabe was found hidden in a pit covered with thorns.
Daily Trust reports that Dan Asabe had in the month of June given his friend Mijinyawa N40,000 in exchange for locust beans seed for business.
After three months, Mijinyawa who bears the same first name as his friend could neither account for the loan nor the seed.
Describing the incident, Dan Asabe’s mother, Mairo Hamisu said for the past three months, her son kept asking his friend for the seed but to no avail.
“He kept asking him and he would always promised to pay until that fateful day when he asked him to come and collect the seed. That was the day he disappeared,” she said.
She added that after three days of her son’s disappearance, they decided to call his friend to ask him if he knew something about him and he denied knowing anything. Twice the friend was called by the deceased’s family and on both occasions he denied knowing anything.
“Being a grain dealer, he (Mijinyawa) asked one young boy to carry some grains for him and when the boy finished the work he refused to pay him his due and as the boy insisted, he warned him to stop disturbing him or else he would deal with him as he had dealt with Dan Asabe. It was the young boy that came to us to tell us what the man said and we informed the police,” she disclosed.
After interrogation, he confessed to killing and hiding the corpse of his friend in a pit, “When he finally took the police to the place, the body was decomposed such that it was packed with a shovel and taken for burial.”
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Musa Majia confirmed the incident and said the suspect was in police custody and had confessed to committing the crime. He said he would be charged to court as soon as they finished their investigation.
